Okay to leave radar detector in car on hot day?

I just got a Valentine One.

Is it okay to leave your radar detector mounted in your car on hot days? It was like in the hundreds today and I left it in when I went to the movies at like 3pm. I cracked the windows slightly but when I came out it was really hot to the touch.

I have it mounted to the left of the rearview mirror, and at this position it is in the direct sunlight.

Should I take it off everytime I leave my car?

I have had a Valentine 1 on my windowshield using the suction cups since 1997. My cars are never inside and there is a lot of sun in Central Florida. The thing gets so hot that you can't touch it but it still works fine. I never worry about it.

I think many people get way too excited about a little heat. I can't vouch for other brands but my Valentine 1 is fine. Before 1997 I had a Passport and before that an Escort, going back to 1981. Never any problems, they only got replaced to upgrade to for X band and then Xa band coverage.

The heat might not kill it, but there's a possibility a thief will see it as an easy target. You spend $300-$400 on a good radar detector and want to keep it as long as possilbe.

i leave mine on all the time....don't worry about it..the most that could happen is the suction cup could get soft and sag a little but just push it back in and you'll be fine.
