Split Hoods..?

Are there any split hoods available for 8's out there? Sometimes I think carbon hoods can spoil the look of the car, depending on the paint job of course.

Yes, a split hood is a hood that opens vertically or horizontally down the middle, usually with some sort of air-intake or vinyl that that is designed to hide the seams..I can't find a decent photo of one so this will have to do (a poor quality photo from NFSU2, which I didn't take.)

tut, well that was helpful hey, that pic was a bad example...split hoods can actually look good if they're the right style for the car, as you probably noticed that car isn't an RX, but a Ford Mustang (sniggers). Hm, if you had to pick betwen suicide doors or a split hood, which would you choose..?

I've always thought it would be cool if the hood ended where the triangle shaped indent is (near the windshield). Like if the indent was an engine cover and the hood met up with it.

But the split hood? cool for a show car, I guess.

Ok, which of these replies actually helped with the origional question? None that I saw.

As of now, I have not seen any split hoods on the market for the RX8, but that doesnt mean it cannot be specially ordered, or created if you know the right body shop. Wouldnt be very functional, but if you are touring the show circuit, I think it would look great, so long as you bling up the engine bay a bit. Not much help here sorry, but at least I tried.

Actually technically they're not suicide doors because you have to open front doors first before opening the rear ones. Suicide doors get their name because back in the day when they were first invented (i'm talking the thirties, before seat belts), if the car was to get in a crash or something the doors would swing open and eject the passengers to their death - thus the "suicide" aspect :D

But anyway... split hoods is definitely a custom job that an experienced body shop would have to take up, actually i think the car might look good with the Euro-style hood that hinges from the front, that would be cool.

For 1 thing, its worthless unless you have 10s of 1000's of dollars invested into your engine and you want to show off.

2) Whats the point?

3) Whats the point?

4) see above.

Oh yeah, i forgot to mention its ugly. :p
Considering no-one has actually seen an 8 with a split hood, I don't think anyone knows if it would be 'ugly' or otherwise, yes, that split hood looks pathetic on that screenshot, but that cars not an RX8, and that hood is only a basic split, down the centre.

Oh, and the only reason I used a NFS screenshot is because I googled 'split hoods' and I couldn't be bothered raking through hundreds of pages just to find a real photo..

I know I'm not helping here, but...

If you were able to find a split hood, an interesting idea I must admit, how would you check the oil? I stand to the side and do it. Can you do it from up front?

Also, what's wrong with CF hoods? Aren't they lighter and stronger?

If I managed to get a split hood, then of course I'd have to think about the oil check etc. which means that the hood would have to split a different way other than down the centre..perhaps horizontally or diagonally! :D :p

I know that when I look at the finely sculpted contours of my hood, I always end up thinking, "You know what that needs? It needs a big-*** body seam breaking all of that up. Yeah!"
