The Mazda "pearl satin gas door"

Oh how I regret getting this piece. I haven't even installed it yet -- let me say why before y'all open up with the flamethrowers

I had a '94 miata, and on it I had the Mazda chrome gas door. It was a great piece, machined aluminum, with a ring which stayed stationary, and a door that opened. The ring had a gasket around it. The hinge was solid billet with a pin through it. It screamed quality.

Now I got the RX8's gas door, and bleah! It's cast! It's one piece, the hinge is plastic.. it looks, frankly, quite low-rent. Feels low-rent.

Is *anyone* making a really nice gas door, or is this all there is? If it is, the stock door stays until someone does make a nice one.

This one goes back to the dealer, and if he won't take it back, off to ebay with it..

Mold that in..?? I'll look at the sparco site.. I hope someone (or mazda) makes a nice one. This one's about on-par with Kia.

Sure did, and all I found is the MS carbon, the Mazda pieces, and the JDM one.

All of 'em look fake fake fake, imo.

The deal is this:

I want one where the rim remains stationary, and the door, and only the door, pops open. Like the gas lid on a bike. This ... thing.. of the entire piece opening makes it so incredibly cheap it just screams "I was bought at wal-mart, right next to the 13" spinner hubcaps!"

Hardly what I'd like to put on one of the sexiest cars out there, right up there with PininFarina, Scaglietti and Figoni et Falaschi. (yes, I think the 8 is as sexy as the Delahayes of the 30's were!)

Ooh purty! That'd be my last resort.. I'd rather engineer a proper one myself, have a few hundred made, and sell 'em to offset the cost.. :D

I just can't believe we went form the gorgeous piece the Miata got, to .... this... thing..

Thanks! I'll keep it in mind.. and that certainly would work for a frankencar.. :D

(I'm always thinking about getting an old alfa or whatnot and go nuts on it..)

Ha. I did read the first ... oh 1 page of *that* thread. It was so chaotic, I went to others. You gotta admit, that was one seriously bipolar thread! :D

But did you read the *whole* thread? I just did.

There is no such piece. There were prototypes and that's it. Mazda did *not* use the same guys as the NA, because they were too slow to get back to mazda.
That's a little further back than the first post linky below.

Viddy this.. ^.^

Man I do wish they'd make the other one! :D
