Just ordered a set of these:

http://www.whalentire.com/wheeldetai...8066HS&size=18

Best value I could find...and I actually like the look to boot!

Bryan,

Looks like a nice set of wheels. Please let us know when you
get tires mounted on them and how they fit on your RX-8.

Great find. I've always liked the BBS look and a little lighter then stock is always good. I wouldn't mind picking up a set at that price. Let us know if there are any fitment issues.

Saw a pic of them mounted up in one of the other forums, so I think I'll be good to go...hopefully no surprises! I'll advise when they come in.

I checked the Enkei web site (http://www.enkei.com) and they list these
wheels at 19.4 lbs. rather than the 18.5 on the Whalen web site.

I'd be curious to find out how much they actually weigh...

my 18 x 8 Kodiak racing wheels with similar offset weigh 16 lbs each, of course they cost more ... just throwing it out as a reference as that's probably about as light as you can get

Well... he qualified it with 'about'. And he's right. I'm sure you can get some wheels made out there that would be lighter than the Kodiak or SSRs... it's only limited to the amount of $$ in the bankroll.

my scale doesn't read that fine and I got to customize my offsets to exactly what I wanted, with SSR's you have to take what they give you, I didn't have the SSR option for the vehicle they were made for either (not an RX8)

if it was lighter it would likely flex too much, flexing wheels are bad for handling and eventually they crack and break

Also got the car aligned...I was able to get -1.0 and -1.1 in the front.

Those look nice! And it looks like you got them for a good price.

When I was shopping for wheels last week the best price I found these were $275@ at buywheels.com.

Did you weigh them?

Weighed them on the bathroom scale, which only goes to the nearest pound and is who-knows-how accurate...came out 20lbs one time and 19 the other.

That sounds about right, thanks.

Do you notice any difference in the feel of the car? (Lighter, nimbler?)

I was just wondering because I am having a debate with a fellow driver - I feel like my 2nd car is lighter and easier to turn than the one I had last year. He doesn't think I would notice any difference in a 2 lb wheel weight or 2 pounds in the tires. (The only 2 things I can account for that are different are the Dunlops which are supposedly 25lbs. vs. the Potenzas at 27lbs; and no spare tire kit now.)

I noticed a BIG difference...of course the new wheels had R compounds on them

If you notice a 2 pound difference in unsprung weight, you're a better man than I...or experiencing a placebo effect

Some better pics of these wheels:
