I had a nice new set of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s installed on Friday with my stock wheels (245/40/18). I must say I'm extremely pleased with these tires. They were kinda pricey ($900) but the grip is WELL worth the money. These things stick like glue on dry pavement, and wet grip is phenomenal. We had quite a bit of rain last night so I took it out for a little while and I can honestly say the twitchiness of the stock tires is COMPLETELY gone. Turns and acceleration that would normally cause my DSC to come on, weren't a problem at all, I didn't see the light come on at all .

I would HIGHLY recommend these tires if you're looking for a good set.

 

They are also amazing in the rain. Best tires I have ever owned.

 

Did you get these because your stock ones were worn out or did you just want a change?

 

I've used Michelin Pilot Sports on motorcycles for some years. They have a great reputation (well deserved) in that application. Only downside is the short life of the tires. (On a bike a high grip tire will seldom yield more than 5K-6k (that's right) miles.) As a result, Michelin brought out a "Pilot Road" tire with nearly the same grip and better mileage for touring.

Wondering if the Pilot Sports for cars suffer from the same limitations. (Not to the same degree, I'm sure.)

Anybody know?

 

My stocks were showing their wear bars so they needed replaced once spring came around. I'm not sure one the treadlife but they have a fairly decent rating from what I recall.

 

I'm just wondering how soft the compound is.

 

What's strange is when I go to Michelin's site and type in what type of tires they recommend for the 8, no set of tires comes up. It states "not available in your vehicle's O.E.'s size"...

 

The compound seems rather soft, so hopefully the life will be good.

Probably because they don't have a stock size available for that particular tire. According to tirerack they only have a 225/40/18 which is probably why they didn't come up.

 

So I take it you can put these PS2s on there without any fit problems?

 

I have 245/40/18 on all 4 stock wheels with no problem whatsoever. So yes.

 

I installed Michelin PS2 last summer and it's amazing... Love them!

Michelin Pilot's Sport PS2 - 255/35/19....luv'um. This tire has different tread and rubber on the inside (harder) and softer on the outside which attributes to it's great performance.

 

I just ran Road Atlanta a couple weekends ago on my fairly-new PS2's, and was very pleased at how they performed. Had them on for a couple thousand miles.

 

Did you mean "hard?" A "soft" compound is not recommended for long life.

i have these tires on my 8 in size 245/40/18 and i noticed significant treadwear in the backs. I do drive agressive but these tires wear out much faster than the stock potenzas. The grip is great though.

 

HA!! I have Dunlop D208s on my 2002 Superhawk (1000cc V-twin) and get about 1500 miles before the wear bars show. I've never been able to get 2000 miles from a set since I bought the bike. (I drive hard on the street, but I've never been to the track. I do wear out the front as fast as the rear, though. :D ) That's just the cost of sticky tires.
