FC RX-7 Should I get one ?

Currently 17 years old, I dont want to buy a FD cause I will cause destruction, therefore asking on opinions if a FC is the rtye for me.

1990 RX-7 Hatchback
24K Rebuilt Motor
5-speed (5th gear grinds)
over 200K on car
white .. some of the car is primered not painted

asking price $2845 but since some defects dropped to $2500.
I am only 17, therefore need something reliable and fun. Sort of fast and handles nice. I know RX-7 fits most of those but my main concern in reliability.. I probably wont dog on the car, but how should it hold up. I will drive MAX 1000-1500 miles/month.

Between the paint (lack of) and mileage, $3K sounds like way too much. I think you could find a nice convertible w/125K for that kind of money. Rotaries will run 300K if taken care of but at 200K even with a rebuild you need to consider exhaust, brakes, suspension wear, electronics, etc. I'd pass and look for a better deal or a convertible. I had an 88 convert and it was a great car.

You need to spend another $3000 to do an overhaul on the car, wash the chambers and replaces the rotor, seals and stuff. Pick on some interior you need to do, too.

So 1990 RX-7 will be having a 13-BT engine? Nice....

Yeah $3000 for the car is still too high, I think $2500 or less after telling him you need (and you will need) to overhaul the engine. The Jap does overhaul every 100k

My first car was an '88 nonturbo RX-7. It was a fun car. The '89-'91 cars are the ones to get. I plan on getting another one soon. They are quick but by no means fast. The handle very well. It doesn't cost much to get them moving faster and handling much better. It is a great car to learn how to play with. If you buy it, just go ahead and replace all of the hoses and belts and change all of the fluids. The oil lines should probably be replaced too. If all of this is good, it'll keep running for a long time.

Thanks for your feedback. I know RX7 FOrum would have been the place to ask but i am not a member there. Well then i guess RX-7 will be my second car. I'll just get a 240SX, everyone said its a perfect car for teens that like performance cars.
