Build-out of 2005 RX8 for SCCA T3 Racing...

Hello, I'm new here, but will come around more often as we build out the RX8 and start racing it. I've been racing SRX7's for 3+ years and now I'm looking forward to a national class with the RX8.

Bought from the dealer with 4 miles 2/9/05...

Back from paint 2/20/05 to get a black racing stripe...

Took to the dyno today for a base run...

How can Mazda get away with publishing 238 HP numbers!?! Anyone know the full story behind that? I know there was a law suit, but didn't that just make them lower to 238 from 245?

Even a 20% loss factor should pull 190 at the rear wheels.

700 Miles
100% Stock
Dynojet HP: 164.4
Torque: 128.1

I would feel something is wrong with my individual car, but the exact same dyno had a new 2004 on it that went 165.6 HP and 132.4 Torque.

Notice the unlinear curves? Is that some variable timing or what? Both my RX8 and the 2004 had the same curve.

Anyone share what they've seen other stock RX8's go? How much to expect from air filter and exhaust?

Also, I heard 5th gear is 1:1, so how much did we loose from this run being in 4th? 3rd gear was only a couple HP from 4th.

Thank you,
rob

I really hate to tell people to search, but your dyno questions have all been thoroughly discussed many, many times before. In a nutshell, there is a question about whether the ECU flips out when the cars are run on dynos preventing the operator from getting accurate readings. The non-linear curves are pretty common.

Look forward to watching your car's development, and welcome!

There's some speculation that the ECU cuts power when it detects the rear wheels moving, and the front wheels standing still.

Also remember that most cars dyno less when new...and more when older. Didn't the FD's use to have some sort of magical "switch" that flipped over around 20k miles?

I know the mazda 6 gains around 10-15 extra whp by 30k miles (vs a sub 10k dyno).

Aren't you in T2 when running National events and T3 is Regional only? Good graphics design. I will be looking forward to your reports on your progress.
I use to run 82 & 85 RX7's in ITS.

Yes, get beat by M3's, F Bodies, and Neons for at least another year.

Did you run with your dsc/tcs 'totally' disabled? (More than the dsc light off?)

Is that corrected or measured hp?

This is just a base model.

Dyno chart says STD.

Has anyone run back to back comparing 4th gear to 5th gear? Someone told me 1:1 5th Gear would improve numbers 10-15%. I find that hard to believe, my run was in 4th.

Thank you, I didn't want to go crazy, but didn't want just base paint either. SRX7's had two racing stripes, but on RX8 the hood and roof contour don't lend itself to that. So just an offhand quick decision to meet the stripes within the hood contour.

I guess I don't know what STD means in relation to if a 'correction value' was mulitiplied in or not.

I'm a liar. I did only 5th gear dynos. However, I did a 1-6th gear run...no real difference..

Well, we're still unable to prove the 4th/5th gear theory.

Does your car have any mods?

Thanks.

The safety stuff has been completed, it has a log book, and I participated in my first national day.

All the racing stuff needs to be done still. Only thing it had was front pads and Hoosiers. I couldn't even hear the car, but could hear the race cars on the other side of the track.

Hopefully have more of the racing stuff done by the R/N at TWS in 3 weeks.

Thanks all.

The seats will have to go back in. Didn’t have time this weekend.
