Martin sports Car club out of central florida i holding an auto-x event in Tevares(sp) florida, and this is gonna be my first auto-x event. I was looking for some tips, I have auto so I was just wondering should I have everything on, just DSC off, or DSC and TSC off? Thanx..If you need I'll post what the Course map is going to look like if that makes a differance when it comes to traction control.

 

Even in the rain I get better times (~1-2 seconds) with everything off. Try it without and then try it with it on. See which is easier for you to stay on your driving line. If you are a novice, let them know and do a course walk with somebody experienced. Learn how to drive the course and then worry about being fast. Have fun!

 

If they have an insructor... take one with you on your 1st set of runs. Treat it as more a learning experience than a compeititon. There'll be more events later in the year... get a good foundation now, and the rest will fall into line, and you'll be faster before you know it.

if it is the same map that is on autocrossforums.com You will need to turn off the DSC to be able to spin the car.

360° pylons in an autoX course are a bit alien.

 

az solo2 is also hosting autoX on Feb 13 @ Phoenix Internationl Raceway. Only having attended two events, here are some tips passed to me, but i have the manual:

- empty ur car completely
- snell 2000 helmet required
- tire pressure (41 front/ 36 back)
- bring chaulk. what u do is make markings on the sidewall where tread meets sidewall to adjust tire pressure as necessary
- turn off dsc/tc completely
- arrive early and walk the course as much as allowed
- don't be deterred by the sea of cones on the first time
- learn how to properly work the course and call cones/dnf
- about 1/2 tank of gas, definately not under a 1/4 tank! (due to reasonw we all know about)
- have fun!

driving tips:
- the autoX line is quite different then a track line
- depending on the course, for the manual, once i am in second, i pretty much stay there. will depend on course and driving ability (and car i guess - auto vs. manual)
- slow in, fast out

I'm actually going to go against the advice of everyone else on the thread and say to leave the DSC on. Yes, a good driver who knows exactly what they're doing will be slowed down by DSC, but this is your first autocross ever -- you'll have your hands full just driving the course, and leaving the DSC on will give you one less thing to worry about.

Once you've progressed to the stage where you always know where you are on course and what line you want to take, and you're noticing DSC holding you back, then turn it off. Until then, you have bigger fish to fry.

This surprises me. Why are only 2000s allowed? Usually it's Current (2000) and one (2000 and 95) or two (2000, 95 and 90) previous.

If it's an SCCA chapter... the rule book allows the Current and two previous. If not... I'm still surprised it's only the current spec.

You can only buy a new 2000 in the stores tho... if that's what you/they mean.

ok maybe im wrong. like i said, i only attended 2 autox'es. again, TIPS PASSED TO ME but if he was buying one, why buy one that will be obsolete next season/year?

 

Snell2000 should be good till 2010 at most SCCA regional events...

i think that is what i originally recommended, and it was YOU that suggested otherwise..... let's keep this thread on topic and provide this guy some USEFUL advice!
