How do I find out when my 8 was manufactured? Thanks for the help!!

Build date for my 8 is kinda cool...same month and only 4 days different than "my" build date. I'll take that issue up w/my parents next time I see them.

 

Just wondering. Didn't know how long my 8 sat before I purchased. Thanks for the help.

 

Little thread resurrection here but didnt want to start a separate thread to ask this question.

My 8 has a build date of 09/05 and is considered a 2005. How can this car not be a 2006? For reference, I bought the car in 09/06 and the 2007 cars were already out. If 2007's were available in 09/06 does it make sense that my "2005" was built in 09/05??

 

My 05 was built 9/05 as well. I bought it in March when the 06's started to appear. The 06 model year was just very short.

 

Basically "model year" and actual manufacturing date are not exactly the same. (although very close) Model year has more to do with options and specifications (that's why you can have '06 models that were made in Nov 05 etc... but to '06 specs) Manufacturing date is the date the completed vehicle was rolled out of the assembly plant and ready for transport to the dealerships/distribution places (sometimes thae specs change very little so its more of an accounting/sales numbers game, but that's one of the reasons minor changes in the options, or cosmetic changes are made. So they can change the model year to match the current calendar year .

My model year is 2005 but the build date was 12/15/2004. should I get a 2004 model instead ?

It doesnt work like that. Build date has nothing to do with Year model (mostly)

You can have a 2008 car with a 2006/12/30 build date (altho it doesnt sound right)
