Astra is looking for a pilot....

...for the next 2005 RX8 Sport Cup season.
Who wants to try to become the next official RX8 driver could contact Astra.
During a 3 day event all the people who'd like to become a real pro pilot could drive a racing MX5. Among all the pilots the winner will be who will have the best time without damaging the car.
More news and info on Astra website....coming soon.

In cooperation with the magazine "Autosprint" we'll organize this event.
The winner will be the official Astra pilot for the 2005 season. This means he will not pay for racing the championship, but also media promotion and much more

Even if like a snowball in hell, I'd do almost anything even for the chance to be the next RX-8 driver for you!

You guys are just playing with us Americans (say it isn't so), but I can't wait to hear the details on the possibilities hfalex! :D .

A vacation in Italy this winter you say? ha ha ha! Sign me up!

Not just for this ride, but for most racing, is their a general size limit? Besides being a horse jockey, racing is one of the few other sports where being phisically large (not fat :p ) works against you. Are there any large drivers out there (6'3" or larger). I need to find some kindof role model. :D I am pretty sure that I would not have a chance at this ride, but it wouldnt be for lack of effort. I may not have the skill yet, but the ***** are there. Going flat out would not be the problem, but keeping it on the track would be. :D

Champ car (and ex-F1) driver Justin Wilson is also 6'3", but some might say he bought himself a ride.

The 2005 RX8 cup rules set to 100Kg the overall weight of the pilot. If you weight is 95Kg we'll put 5kg of iron under you seat....

At 225, I could lose 5 lbs.

6' tall.

Do you train? :D I can drive very well in other types of automotive competition, just never been on a road course before.

How bout the RxTuner Article hfalex?

5'11, still growing, 135lbs.

I have an advantage technically a driver is unsprung weight as his weight shifts from left to right during cornering no? Im assuming the iron is fastened securly to the chasis.

1- road competitions? Not at all. I mean the 8s will race on tarmac but in Monza, Mugello, Imola circuits.....even if sometimes some pilot try to use it also on gravel... just a few seconds before crashing....

2-the extra piece of iron will be fixed to the chassis, but also to the zick of nasty pilots .... big problems while hard braking... ( joking...)

Candidate has NOT to have won any important race before. That's all? Has to be also fast but consistent.
Usually we organize a 3 days event on a short circuit with 3 MX5 racing (180hp). Every candidate has to drive every car for 4 laps (3 sessions) per day. Best total time is the winning factor, but who damages the car or put it on the sand...is out.
News on Astra website soon
