My friend and i are going to race our cars. I drive the 8, he drives the gtp. The GTP has about 270 hp, 285 lb of torque, but weighs about 500lbs more. Its also an automatic. Can anyone tell me if I am going to win?

Why of why do people come on here wondering if they can win a race. Go do something with your time rather than come here and wonder. If you don't want to wonder if your car will win a race go buy a Viper or a Ferrari. You will just get flamed for asking such stupid questions. If you street race your friend maybe you will wrap your 8 around a tree. Therefore neither of you will win and no longer wonder.

"i am gonna race my friends' XXX - who do you think will win?". Pulease. Besides the fact that it depends on the driver, it is pointless to ask other people who will win a race that you are going to be driving in. You start this thread like there is a definitive answer to your question.

How about you find out by doing the race yourself. AT THE TRACK.

I think it will be a close race. He has more torque, so you will need a high rpm clutch dump to have a chance.

 

win?! race?! what the hack do u mean?! if u are gonna race like short drag race.. I can 99.9999% to tell u .. u lose.. for sure .. at least.. he has to know some basic driving skill.. doesn't he?! but like track.... it's really hard to tell dude.. all depend on the skilll and the track. 8 is a good handling car.. even though I don't think it is a race car.. but she still got good handling .. and a good engine.

His GTP makes 260HP as of 2004 and according to MT you should take him. Like they told you, alot of it is with the driver but the times look like the following:

RX8 0-60 5.9 1/4 Mile 14.5 (according to MT & CD)
GTP 0-60 6.9 1/4 Mile 15.0 (according to MT)
(Personally I think the GTP can do a little better but what do I know)

 

Is your friend stock, it's very easy and cheap to up the HP in the GTP. If he's stock you should take him in the 1/4 due to his AT but it'll be close.

 

The GTP is nice looking I just wish GM did not constantly FORCE auto's on those cars. I think, a real sports car has to have:

RWD or AWD
Stick

Period, I mean come on...enough with the dang auto's

'02 GTPs have 260HP? I think those are 240 the new GTPs are 260HP and for -05 they will get the 290HP Northstar 8s. You should take any GTP (except for '05s)--if you don't it'll be your fault.

Agreed. GTPs run anywhere from 14.4s-15.0s, depending on the driver and how well s/he can get it off the line. This would make it right about even with an RX8 through the 1/4 mile, so it should be a close race.

 

make sure to laugh at him for owning such a lame car before and after the race

I think it would be close in the quarter nile if you both know how to drive. FYI, if the race is going to go over 100MPH, the rx8 will start to pull away at that point.
