Light on in glove box -- normal?

My dealer had to replace my glove box door after something went wrong doing the passenger air bag recall. The light in the glove box now stays on whenever the headlights are on -- I can see it over the top of the glovebox door when the car is in a dark garage.

The dealer checked this and says the glove box light does this in other RX8s. If the glove box door fit more tightly, I probably wouldn't be able to see in. Maybe it was always this way, but I never noticed. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I have to double check, but I doubt it. Doesn't make any sense at all.

Since the glove box door was replaced, I'm willing to bet that it isn't fitting right, which means it isn't closing all the way so the light isn't turning off.

I had the same problem with a loose glove box door on my 93 RX7. Very annoying.

Does the glovebox door look like it is closing all the way?

If you open the glove box door and turn your lights off and on you will notice the glove box light is controlled by the light switch and not the glove box door.

Very hard to get all the way into the glove box; my feet were sticking out. Seriously, though, I do feel the glove box door doesn't shut completely. That's how I can see the light through the crack at the top. Rob is right that it just doesn't make sense that there isn't some kind of momentary contact switch on the dash that shuts off the light when the glove box is closed -- even if the light is wired in with the headlights. Why risk heat build-up and possible fire?
