The only "reason" I would think the 8 numbers dropped are people waiting for certain "factory packages" to arrive at dealerships on the 2005.

Also, they only sold 651 Miatas ???

Hmm. It seems Mazda lost ground with their trucks, but gained the same with their cars. I guess they broke even.
