RX8 Dead 30 miles after leaving Dealer!

Well Last night I purchased a six speed loaded RX8, sunlight silver, black and red interior, nav, the works. Well I drove the damn thing to my Dad's and then he took it out for maybe five mins. It seemed to go out of gear while moving. He stopped it would'nt go into gear. He was able to force it, he drove home and then we were unable to get it into reverse so we had to push it out of the garage. Mazda is picking it up today, How disapointing is that for a first post?! anyway, anybody have any ideas about what this could be? also It has the MazdaSpeed body kit on it, anybody else get this in the states yet? I havent heard or scene any others... thanks

Thats unfortunate brian ... keep us posted after mazda works on it. They're a fair amount of 8's with the mazda speed package.

GOOD LUCK !

sounds like a clutch issue. how many original miles are on the car? i suspect foul play, check the tires conditions. maybe someone was having fun with that 8 before you bought it.

Maybe I'm just being a little crazy but you do know that you have to press the gear stick down and then over to right to get it into reverse right? Because this was my first 6spd and I couldnt get it to go in reverse either. Then I asked the salesman and I was able to do it on the first try. Don't know but try you never know that might be it.........................

Hehe, I had the same problem when I took my 8 out for a test drive. This is also my first 6sp and I had no clue how to get into reverse until the salesman showed me.

LOL yeah guys finding reverse is'nt the problem, but I do know what you mean. Foul play might be it it had 250 miles on it I notticed yesterday although the tires looked fine... Im am so unlucky it hurts! I would look at the tires closer but it is already on a flat bed and gone. The shift noise with the engine off it much louder then it was and moving the shifter is taking great effort. SO.... would it take great effort to move the shifter with the car off with a clutch problem or is it something worse here?

Maybe it's a bent shift fork issue?

250 Miles on a new car is very odd. What did they do drive it from the dock?

^^^ I was thinking the same thing. Might have been driven real hard and bent some of the forks or grinded gears screwing your synchros in those 250 miles. Alot of idiots out there will drive a car extra hard if it has a body kit on it. I think it should be mandatory for people to go to professional driving school before they get their license...particularly to learn how to properly drive a manual.

Good luck I hope it works out. Wish I had a MS bodykit...

The car's mileage wasn't posted on your sales contract when you closed the deal on the car?

Brian,

Welcome. I'm with some of the other guys on this one - it sounds like your car had a brutally hard first 250 miles. We all know the sales guys treat them when we're watching - imagine when we're not. Your car may have been on countless testdrives.

I found it really shitty that my sales guys beat the hell out of the testmule (I picked a car in the storage lot with 7 miles on it), redlining every shift, nailing the brakes, etc. Then during the delivery of the car, informed me of the break-in procedure...

Question for the more knowledgable guys here: Can Brian get data from the OBD (via a Mazda service dept.) that charts the motor's life; e.g. number of 8,000 + shifts, top speed, etc.?

Good luck with it Brian.

I think that data can be pulled from the "black box" atleast for a limited period of time.. However, we don't have access to that..

There are quite a bit of RX-8s here in So Cali with MS Kit or MS Style Kits already. At least 10-15 I've seen personally. So it's becoming pretty common at least around here.

I just talked to the service mananger, he seems geuine. He says the problem is a "check Ball" it shifted tightening the gear box. It is a 2 dollar part. They havent scene this on this car yet. Rather then having me wait, they are installing the tranny from a new RX8 on the lot into my car. My salesman just called me and he is personally delivering it to me at work tommorrow morning they are an hour away. The car since it has the mazda speed kit was shown in two auto shows. each being 50 or so miles away from the dealer. He named them. That explains the miles. So am i being niave or is this all good stuff? I am inclined to believe them I think they are good people.

not trying to start an argument............but 250 miles on a ''brand new'' car for 32000..approx... damn......you should of waited alittle bit for one with atleast no more than 50 and thats a little too much...now if it wasnt 30000 + thats a diff story.....sorry bout the car

Maybe Brian's was a demo car. Mine was. when i got it, it had 4,000 miles on it. sounds like a lot i know, but i haven't had ANY problems like a lot of people seem to have. i think they took good care of this "testmule". but the sticker price for mine was like 33,100 or so, and me and my dad pretty much told them, "we ain't stupid", so they dropped the price down to about 25,000 after rebates and such.

Enjoy the car. hope everything gets fixed

What kind of deal did you get?

Could make a difference. If it were sold as a "demo" you should have gotten a great deal. But remember that the MS body kit is well over $3000.00.

well, mine didn't come with the MS Kit. it is just the GT package with appearance kit and rotary accents. Since i am leasing, i got like a 1500 lease bonus, plus, i think they took it down to used car value. and after trade in it came out to be about 25,000. and i think the dealership was trying as best they could to sell all their 8's, so they were quick to offer deals on any of them.

It went to a couple of shows... 250 isnt much to worry about, price... hmm... if you count trade in (the part they gave me over blue book) I believe I paid about 33 for it the rx8 alone stickered at almost 35 plus the MS kit. I think I did fine. I just hope it turns out alright. I want to be able to speak in here with authority!
