Auto RX-8's

Man, from what I've read on this forum, kudos to MM Sing for not even allowing us to consider the auto :D

Yet, I have to wonder why as some people simply don't want to drive MT. Is it emissions? Can't be cause the auto PI's get in. Why did MM(s) take so long to introduce the 8 and why only the 6MT?

Maybe becoz ther r too mani jams during peak hours n u dun wan to be caught in one with an MT. It can lead u to be a road bully eventually and start using the Flares / Distress sticks found in JDMs!! :S

MM didn't want to bring in the auto because they thought there wouldn't be a big market for auto 8s (kinda like an auto WRX). However, they are only half right because Singaporeans are quite pampered and there IS is demand for autos.

I don't see whats wrong with the 4AT guys?.... mine's about 3000km, done one oil change and it purrrrs real well .

Many users of the AT in the other forums don't seem to have complains n are pretty satisfied from what i read....

Anyway, for me AT is all about convenience..i drove a GTR 33 before this and though nothing beats the G-force on acceleration of that car, maintaining it and using the mannual gear in the city was no fun.... i guess if we can all afford it we can own two cars with the option of AT and manual ! :D

Hi davester,

Sorry if I'm giving the impression, but I'm not knocking those who own the Auto. It's just that I've read through many posts here that indicate the Auto significantly lacks the drivetrain torque and Hp available in the MT. Apparently the drop in Hp is huge...like it's another car altogether that doesn't quite pull. In addition, perhaps I'm wrong, the Auto has mechanical issues that keep the driver from feeling like it's a true sports car.

That said, to each his own. If yer happy with yer Auto then all the power to you!

I thought about getting the auto too.... for about 2 seconds, but in the end the warranty and servicing of the rotary was more important so I got from MM. Kinda miss the convenience of driving an auto, but I'm sure I won't regret it. I try to convince myself that the manual is more fuel economical and less problematic maintenance wise. I think true sports car enthusiasts would prefer driving manuals anyway, so hopefully that helps with the resale value if I ever want to sell it.

Hi sqflyer,

I ordered my 8 from MM for the same reason. Yet, I'm wondering about the service at MM. Various posts indicate that perhaps having your rotary serviced through the right PI servicing shop is the better choice in terms of oil/filter selection, engine tuning, etc. Anyone who owns an 8 must be willing to accept that more attention is required to care for the car, you can't just drive it and forget it.

Does anyone who owns a PI have any servicing "horror" stories, same goes for those who use MM??
