there is an ad in this week's Autoweek for the original gtech also for 49.95. It's in the gift guide under accessories.

Thanks for the heads-up... just ordered one up for $39.99. I know it's not as accurate as some other methods, but it will be great to measure performance differences with various tuning/mods, along with my CanScan.

It's probably the best portable device... (the new ones look really cool, but at $200-$300)but not as accurate as timing equipment you'd find at a drag strip or autocross.

I can offer this information; The guys with whom I work that race modded Mustangs all have the G-Tech. They also go to the racetracks in my area several times a year. When I was thinking about purchasing one for myself I approached them to ask about the G-Tech's accuracy. They assured me that it was as accurate as it claims to be and they have compared it's numbers to a real chronometer at a real dragstrip. I bought one and have not been disappointed. When doing my own stoplight "comparisons", the G-Tech has given me information that prepares me to choose my opponents in a more well-informed fashion. For example, when it was telling me that I was running 14.2-14.4, I was even with stock Mustang GT's. When I was running 13.3 with the nitrous I was running even with, and sometimes quicker than, Evo8's and STi's. The last side-by-side this year involved a new GTO driver who thought V-8's ruled the streets. He was shown that he bought the wrong car every way imaginable. From a dead stop, 20 mph roll, 60 mph roll, it didn't matter. he is now well acquainted with my license plate number. I cannot vouch for the G-Tech's accuracy, personally, but I can tell you that since I have been using mine I have never been surprised on the street.

I should have also noted that I have the Pro version and the additional data and ability to analyze the runs in detail really help determine launch rpm, shift rpm, and other vehicle behaviors.

He must've been a really new GTO driver. An '05 GTO will run a 13-flat bone-stock. The ATXs might even dip into the high 12s. The hard part is getting the thing to grip-up since it's pushing 400hp on 245s. It'll lay down rubber an entire 1/8th mile track. With just better rubber they hit mid-12s. With NoS they get low-11s.
