I know everyone is dreaming of a turbo Rx8. but for some reason i keep dreaming of making a high horsepower (something to the tune of 350hp and 300+ ft/lbs of torque), 12-13k revving, all motor beast. i guess its because i'm at heart i die hard bmw fanatic. i love a NA powerplant. driving becomes more about driver skill. i was just wondering how difficult this would be to accomplish.

 

drop a NA 20B engine in it, retune your suspensions, and it wouldn't be hard at all.

Other than that, you can wait until the new RX-7 comes out...supposedly they increased displacement, although I don't think the engine will rev that high, cuz mileage is already pretty crappy.

 

Keep an eye out for what Racing Beat is doing. They are in the process of designing internal engine parts for the Renesis, along with a re-flash of the ECU. I also share the desire of avoiding FI and, instead, wish to go with higher compression/lighter weight rotors and other internal stuff to acheive a goal of 320-350 rwhp. Of course, by then I will have destroyed my trans and diff but such is the price for the pursuit of performance. The chase is half the fun!!

Why spend more to make less power? You have 2 options, FI or displacement. Well both would be ideal but not happening with the 8. Why not slap a blower on there and be set? More power and a fatter curve is why all the fastest vehicles use FI. Once a blown 8 rapes you you'll change your mind.

 

i've come across a 3 rotor 20B racing engine that produces 400+hp naturally aspirated. i'd love to get my hands on that. does anyone have any info on this.

 

you say it like anyone can afford one. a used Rx8 in my area can be had for about 25K. a used M3 is about 40k. thats a bit difference.

 

Owned it, and it blows. Nothing like a high 13 1/4 and really expensive to mod. BMW engeneered it so well that simple bolt ons don't add crap. Plus they're played...

Maybe a 20B that is turboed, because 400 rwhp isn't all that anymore. Especially on a motor swap.

 

To beat that all it would take is a 3 rotor renesis rx8. Would be lighter, cheaper and more HP.

Problems arise with a 20b daily driver.Even more so with a 20b FI.The center rotor runs very warm with long trips and such.Mazda had a reason to scrap it.

 

One of the reasons that I wish to stay away from FI is the additional hardware and higher operating temps inherent in such designs. Another reason is that everyone seems to be interested in FI and I strive to be a bit different. Not only that, but the ECU needs to be changed and a new set of sensors installed to make it happen. I am not looking for the fastest RX-8 in the country(not yet, anyway). I already have the quickest one in town, but that isn't saying much as there are only two or three others and they are owned by people who are not interested in upgrades/mods(haha). I already have confidence in Racing Beat's design philosophy, so I keep a watch on where they are headed with regard to new parts/mods.

i would love to see a 3 rotor renesis,but it probably wont happen.so ill end up going FI after some internals and a new trans.
