Nothing but a Shoei full coverage for me (from the old motorcycle days, I guess).
Currently an MotoGP replica (Valentino Rossi), but looking for a yellow version to go with the 8.
Shoei is (by far) the most comfortable helmet for me, with Arai a close second.

Own an HJC Open Face.
Just remember when looking for a helmet for SCCA auto-x, it must be Snell Rated 90 or higher. M or SA both work. Remmber that next year or the year after, Snell 90 will no longer be applicable.
Some clubs only allow Snell 95 or higher.

I use an OMP Formula it's SA2000
Different regions have different views on acceptable helmets. Some allow DOT approved, some must be Snell (M or SA). You are best checking with your local club.
G-Force makes an economical open face SA2000 helmet.
This is my OMP:

Used to use an Arai Quantum since I rode motorcycles. Bought my wife an Arai Astral (again orginally for motorcycles) that she uses for autocross. Recently replaced my Quantum (bought in '97) with a Simpson open face helmet.
If you don't need the full face coverage (motorcycles) then I'd recommend an open face for autocross. Better field of vision, easier fit and lighter.

HJC is inexpensive.
If you ever plan to do track events, keep in mind that a few clubs require "SA" rated helmets (won't accept "M"). Full face also recommended for track.
SA helmets are apparently designed to withstand multiple impacts (such as bouncing around inside a car), while "M"s only take one big hit (dumping a bike on pavement). I think SAs are fire-resistant as well.
Again, less of a concern if used strictly for autox. And as others have said, open-face allows much better visibility when looking for cones, lol...

good respnses thank guys (& gals as applicable) the one i ordered has a bigger opening but is still full faced I plan to do some karting too other wise i would have gone open and cheaper.
I use a custom painted Bieffe F1GP. Kart and bike helmets are ok but if you ever do other type of racing you might want to switch for an autoracing helmet with fire retardant material.
BTW......Nice paint job Alex , how do you like the OMP helmet.
