Anyone else notice the big difference in the sound of spraying the front doors versus spraying the rear doors when washing your 8? Is this because of different resonance frequencies of a steel plate versus an aluminuim plate?

 

It probably is because of that but i myself have never really listened to the sound of my 8 gettin hit by water. ill listen harder the next time i wash it.

if you use the sharp end of a screwdriver, the sound is much more pronounce

 

I think the front doors are steel where the rear doors are aluminum.

The first thing I did at the dealer was knock on the side doors. =)

 

The sizes of the doors are very different, hence the difference in sound.
Ever seen a drum kit?

 

All I can say is that when my rear door got hit by a rock* it sounded like the door had exploded! I nearly jumped out of the sunroof! It made a very small dent which was easily fixed by a dentless repair guy.

*Another reason to love SUVs: chunky off-road macho rock throwing soccer moms, I mean tires...

 

Actually its because the doors are made out of different material.

 

What do the doors sound like when they hit different depths of water?

 

When I put my ear up against the back door I can hear the sea....

 

I used a few really big pieces of stones and banged really hard and yeah I noticed the difference immediately.
