KS RomRaider Rx8Man open source software

I just have a few questions about equinox92's open source RomRaider software, I'm not sure how many people here can answer about it, I'm still locked from posting in the main threads. Anyway, I just downloaded the software, and am waiting on my godiag J2534 tuning cable to come in the mail, which I know isn't the most supported compared to the Tactrix Openport 2, but I'm on a budget. My question is about the Rx8Man flashing software, the software says I'm missing op20pt32 dll. The forum guide for the Rx8 Romraider says I can use any compatible J2534, but I'm just curious how to get around that dll driver issue with Rx8 man. Any help is much appreciated. I'm also concerned about when equinox92 talks about the car potentially not starting after flashing, I'm obviously trying to avoid that; what might cause that problem? Thanks again.

From what i understand, only the tactrix is supported by the RX8man reflash software.

That DLL that you are missing is the tactrix driver.

Thanks for the response. I can't get my hands on a tactrix 2.0 anywhere, they are out of stock on the website, so I ordered a J2534 device that seems to be a tactrix clone. I might try downloading tactrix drivers to see if that works with my cable, but otherwise is there another software alternative that can flash ROMs reliably like Rx8Man. I've seen EcuFlash as a possibility, but I'm not sure if that will work without a tactrix cable specifically. Thanks again.

If it's a tactrix knockoff, it should work with the OP2.0 driver.

ECUFlash will not work as there is no kernel for the RX8 ECU, and would also only work with a tactrix as well. RX8Man is your best bet!

I did have another quick question about your main post about your Open Source S1 software. What might cause my car to not boot up as you mention? I'm obviously trying to avoid that, if I do everything correctly should I still worry? Just curious.

If you have reflashed any software that isn't compatible with the hardware, or has software modifications that do not run correctly, it's possible the ECU will default to not running the software. This would cause a no start condition.

It's very unlikely this will happen if you're playing within the bounds of the existing romraider defs. Even if you yank the cable out halfway through a reflash, the controller can still be reflashed to correct software as it will default to the bootloader.

I got my cable to work with Rx8Man, it can identify and read the ECU. I'm editing my ECU's rom to disable DTC engine lights, my only concern is that you mention Rx8Man can't verify my ROM before I write it. How can I validate my ROM/validate my checksum to make sure the modified ROM is safe to use?

You can use compare tools such as Beyond Compare, or some other text/hex editors have some built in to see what has changed, but it won't be very intuitive.

If you work within the defs, you will not brick your ECU, and the flash will be okay.
