JDM Racing Brake Pad Options
JDM Racing Brake Pad Options
Hey 8Club!
One of my go-to pads was discontinued so I found myself in the market for a new compound. Primary use is for track driving so initial bite, pedal feel and operating temp take priority over noise, dust and general wear. Certain compounds are claimed to be suitable for street use but do your own research.
This is by no means an all inclusive list, just what I came up with in my research. Hope others will find the chart of use.
*CM = carbon metal *GM = graphite metallic *C = celcius
Model Material Temp Range Friction Coefficient min max average
APP:
-KG-3309 CM 100-800' C .38 .48 .43
-KG-1204 CM 50-800' C .43 .57 .5
-KG-1115 CM 50-800' C .4 .5 .45
Dixcel:
-Z GM 0-850' C .5 .67 .57
Project Mu:
-racing777 CM 300-800' C .4 .55 .47
-racing999 GM 200-800' C .42 .59 .5
-N1 GM 100-800' C .39 .52 .45
-HC-M1 GM 50-800' C .41 .55 .48
-HC-CS GM 50-800' C .41 .5 .46
-HC-CS18 GM 50-700' C .35 .45 .4
-HC+ GM 0-800' C .43 .58 .51
Thanks for looking!

Thanks for sharing. I recently tried porterfield R4E endurance compound for the first time, hoping i would get amazing life out of them. Have not been impressed with longevity, and the hot friction is not sufficient to trigger ABS engagement with race tires, so i am looking for a more aggressive pad. i had decent experiences with Hawk DTC60 in the past; plenty of bite and acceptable long-term wear, so i am giving them a shot again. i hear raybestos ST43 is the magic pad but have an uncertain supply chain.
yeah, those suck. I recommend the Vintage compound though it might not last any longer, they work from dead cold for AX and Time Trial applications, but is not going to be a good max-effort track pad
