Angry Central Locking Issue

Hi all

I'm having this insanely frustrating issue with my RX-8. A few days ago I decided I wanted to install a microphone into my car so I can answer calls if I absolutely need to, and once I put everything back together, the central locking and key fob no longer work. I say this just in case it's relevant but nothing I've tried works. I've replaced the batteries in the key fob, I've replaced the driver's door actuator and done most things including trying to put the car into programming mode. Nothing seems to be working and it's really frustrating. When I manually lock the door inside the car, I hear the relay click as if the car is attempting to fire the lock, but nothing happens. I've also checked the relevant fuses, they're all good. I tried posting this issue to reddit but was aired. Any help and any advice is highly appreciated. I know this may have already been posted before, but I can't seem to find it. Thanks to everyone that replies. I should also mention it's almost like I'm trying use a different car key on my car, none of the buttons work, the hazards don't flash and the car doesn't even respond to the key. I've tried two different keys.

I don't think I shorted something out, it's not like I changed anything electrically. I will suspend disbelief for a second, do you have any idea on what could be shorted? I highly appreciate the response, thanks

What did you touch while installing the mic? The keyless and central lock modules are under the dash as I recall.

There might be 2 issues: if using the central lock button in the car clicks but doesn't lock, that's a worn out door lock motor. You should see the manual unlock button move but not fulyl cycle, as you say. It would be very unlikely to happen simultaneously on both doors though.

The other issue is the fob itself. Do you have other fobs you can try? Do any of them open the trunk? In fact is the trunk fully closed and locked? The alarm and lights won't flash if something isn't fully locked.

When installing the microphone, I didn't remove any connectors except for the control for the AC (fan, temp) and the middle display. I removed the radio (a Sony XAV-AX1000) and plugged in the microphone into the microphone port. I have verified that the trunk is closed but at this point, I'm not even sure and I'll have a look later today when I can look at it. I have tried both the key fobs and both are known to be good and working. Neither of them open the trunk from when I tried and I'm pretty sure it's closed fully. The alarm and lights do not flash at all as well. I have replaced the door actuator with a known good one and nothing happens. Could the issue be deeper than just a door actuator? Thank you for the reply.

Have you checked all fuses under the hood and in the footwell?

I have checked all the relevant fuses with a multimeter and continuity is all good. I have thought about taking it to the dealership but I know that'll cost quite a few dollars. Is there anything else it could be?

in some cases the polarity of the cental locking motor can be backwards and you have to swap the wires in the plug for it to work.

this is assuming that the lock is 2nd hand.

I see, that's something that I haven't thought about. I'll have a look later today. Thanks so much
