Death of a Rare Bird
Death of a Rare Bird
Welp, I have terrible news; fate has dealt me an ugly blow, and pushed me out of the RX8 world, at least for now. After over a decade of work (since 2013) and $30k+ of mods and upgrades, I am carless for the first time since high school. I just retired from the Navy in Hawaii, and I dropped off my pristinely-cleaned RX8 at the military shipping depot on July 9th to ship it back to Missouri. Then on August 4th (about a week ago as of this posting) I got an email from the shipping company and happily opened it, thinking it was a notification that my car had arrived. Unfortunately, it was a notice that there had been a fire en route and my RX8 was "a total loss." Evidently, it made it all the way across the Pacific ocean back to the mainland, but somewhere out in the desert, one of the cars on the car-carrier had some kind of electrical fire and it got so out of hand that it melted the entire trailer and all of the cars on it into empty metal husks.
I'm sure some of you have seen my Pettit-supercharged blue RX8 popping up here and in the various Facebook groups over the years - it was the opposite of "stock," to say the least. Along with it perished one of the few remaining Pettit supercharger kits, a load of Ryan Rotary and Black Halo parts, and countless other other rare, pricey top-end mods and components.
I'm back in Missouri now and looking to grab a solid late-model WRX for the immediate future because we have terrible roads and long awful winters here that make a low-sitting rear-wheel-drive sports car highly impractical (while the AWD will really come in handy while still being fun), although I do want to acquire another RX8 in the future and do something crazy like a 20B swap, REW swap, or maybe just one of those quick-spooling low-mount Brettus turbo kits I keep seeing on Facebook or something else cool, as I loved the way my 8 drove so much and boosted ones are so much fun.
Anyway, if you want to see my pics and build as well as the carnage, here's a quick IMGUR gallery.
Also, here's my old YouTube channelwith a few pre- and post-supercharging videos on it as well, if you're interested.
Good luck to everyone else with their builds, and I hope the community keeps thriving!

So sorry for you. I know how much we love our 8s and how many hours we invest on them. Modifying them or even thinking in them......
I wish you the best with the new car, I wish the company compensate you well to get a nice WRX.

That's absolutely awful. I cannot fathom what you are feeling after losing that beautiful RX-8. I hope whatever insurance company you are dealing with compensates you adequately. You deserve every penny on the table for that car. Are you planning on getting another?
