Premixing gas
Premixing gas
Hi all I'm new to the rx8 and rotary engine.
my question is I've been seeing a lot about putting two cycle oil in the gas. And I'm a little nervous about it is this Necessary my car has 153k miles on it and it sounds like new no lights on the dash nothing but I'm not sure if the owner did it or not he was the only owner of the car its a 2007 should I start doing it or just go with regular gas, I'm not able to contact him as he deleted the post from Facebook and the messages as well, any information and help about making this decision would be greatly appreciated, also it seems that it was very well maintained and taken care of from the engine to the exterior

You must use premium gas, that's in the manual and on the inside of your fuel door.
You don't need Idemitsu, there are cheaper alternatives like Lucas Synthetic 2 stroke. Whatever you choose, you need an oil that's JASO FD rated. Premixing with the correct oil in the correct amount has no downsides.
It may be well taken care of but you should read the New and Potential Owners thread. You want to be proactive with maintenance, especially ignition. Weak coils kill engines and by the time you get dash lights and obvious problems it's way too late.
153k miles is very respectable if the engine is original though. Do you know if it is? Was a compression test done before purchase?

You probably don't need new fuel injectors unless there's a problem, but you'll want new ignition coils, or to be sure the ones you have are recent.
You can call Mazda North America with your VIN and they'll give you the known maintenance history including engine replacements if done under warranty or at the dealer after the warranty ran out. Also state of any recalls like airbag, front suspension arms, etc.
