Gas shortage

Looks like more and more gas stations are running out of gas. I've been putting in only half a tank of gas at a time for the past two weeks because of rising gas prices, but it looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and pump in 50L just in case.

My gasoline cost for Jan 2007 was probably one of the lowest ever (I just paid the credit card bill yesterday). Looks like Feb 2007 will more than make up for it.

Winter sucks.

We're 97.1 regular down here.
I am glad the energy minister is keeping his eye open for any price gouging or fixing!

Wait - why are gas stations 'running out of gas'?

Oil refinery blew up along Lake Erie. I just drove home an hour ago and at least half of the gas stations were closed. The ones that were open have line ups several cars deep (at 11:30pm). Like all good rotary owners, I just assumed the position and pumped 40L. That should last 2 days.

What a difference a couple of weeks make! I used to hunt for the best price after 8:00 pm.
Now I just look for a place with gas!

Anyone know when this will end?

Its reported that it will prolly end by the end of next week! But most of is bullshit I think, I heard these refineries blew up like close to 2 mths ago now, and the CN strike is just being used as a crutch by these gas companies, sigh.

no wonder the gas prices have gone up out here too... even though we are not directly affected by the refineries blowing up.

Of course. The supply problem should only affects Esso and other smaller indie stations supplied by Esso. But Shell jack up their price anyways cause what is Esso going to do? Esso can't start a price war when their business is already hurting from dry pumps.

Isn't it about the law of supply and demand? Lower supply with the same demand causes the price to increase.

As many of us know... the price at the pump has nothing to do with supply and demand.

Our pump prices just went up this evening to 99.7. If the prices are up in Calgary there is more to this than an oil refinery fire.
Maddening!!

Directly, it only affects Esso, but the extra demand at other stations has an effect also. Tonight I drove by a Shell station that was out of gas.

The refinery fire happened fairly recently - last week or the week before. Definitely not two months ago.

Like Hydro quebec is telling us to save on electricity!! OK so why you have enough to ship to US!
We have enough ressource in Canada to supply ourselfe we do not need nothing from any other country beside car..lol

Shouldn't you save on electricity regardless of supply? Same with gas and any other resource. Just because you have it doesn't mean you should waste it.

Cool Conspiracy.....

They is no shortage of gaz!! they only fool us or what so ever..

OK, have it your way - there was no fire at Nanticoke, there is no 'gaz' shortage, and the empty pumps are actually full.......whatever.

Just be glad I don't own the gas companies. I'd start charging 5 bucks a litre, keep it that way for a couple months, but myself a couple supercars and a few properties, then lower the price to 2 or 3 dollars a litre and you would all be sooooo happy gas was 'cheap' again.
