So my rx8 has sat in the garage for about a week cause i needed to work on it. My catilytic converter was clogged so i took that out and busted up the inside of the cat and i put it back in and when i go to start the car all i hear is just air getting spit out the exhaust. Doesn't sound like there's a spark and it just gives no effort to start. The battery is fully charged so idk what the problem is. I have another rx8 that when it sat for 2 weeks it also wouldn't start but that one gave an effort to start and i was able to get that one going but im confused as to why nothing really happened when trying to start it. I'll post a picture of the codes and a picture of the exhaust from before i took it out.also engine has about 40k miles on it and it as running perfect. Would hot start and cold start just fine. Once the cat got clogged it would start and idle but just had no power but ever since i took the cat out unclogged it and put it back in it is now not starting.
I am...... speechless. Like I dont know if I am shocked or impressed that your car didnt catch fire or something.
First of all, besides being clogged your ignition coils are probably shot and are in desperate need of replacement, along with the spark plug wires and spark plugs. Wouldn't hurt to do a compression test to make sure your engine is okay after driving it like that because honestly DAMN.
I wouldn’t worry too much about O2 sensor codes at least for now. You screw around with the catalytic converter you may get those. Although you will want to make sure you properly reinserted and connected O2 sensors. Seems like if you didn’t do that you may get those codes.
What is going on with the clutch switch code? I could definitely see something like that not allowing your car to start if the clutch switch is intermittent…
Here is google AI:
An intermittent clutch switch, also known as a clutch safety switch or clutch sensor, can cause a number of issues, including:
Engine only starts after repeated clutch pedal pressing: If the clutch pedal needs to be pressed repeatedly to start the engine, the clutch safety switch may be failing.
Factory remote starters won't work: If the clutch safety switch is faulty, factory remote starters won't work.
Car won't crank or start: If the clutch pedal switch malfunctions, the engine computer won't know the clutch pedal is pressed and won't send a signal to the engine starter.
To diagnose the problem, you can inspect the clutch system for worn-out components or low hydraulic fluid levels. If the clutch disc or pressure plate is worn out, you can replace it.
Sounds flooded as mentioned on your other post. There's a deflood procedure you can google. Remove the spark plug and examine/dry them before attempting.
But yes, ignition coils, wires and spark plugs and engine compression both highly suspect given your cat got to that state.
