How do you start the car?
Well, it's strange, sometimes when I start the car it starts right up with no problem, and then sometimes when I start the car it seems as though it's struggling to start and it barely starts. What's with this? Someone told me it's because the 8 has a weak stock battery because if I have my phone plugged into the car charger and then try to start it, it seems as though it's draining it a little and it takes a while to start it, same as if I hold on brake down, as if it's draining electricity from the battery during start.
I don't know, it's strange, but how do you start the car and does anyone else have this problem? I've gotten M flash.

Yeah, it's normal. Seems to pull the hard start stuff a lot more frequently when it's cooler outside (below 50 at least). I've found that if it takes a bit to start, it'll crank real easy if you just stop and try again real fast.
Anyway, to answer your question, I usually start mine with the key. :D

I usually leave my key in the On position for about 30 seconds to let the fuel pump work. I get a smooth start about 98% of the time this way. Occasionally though I will still get the tuttering and scraping sounds before it turns over. I've actually had it start smoothest when its cold outside, and I'm more likely to get hard starts when the weather's warm or hot.
For a 100% guaranteed smooth start though, do the 3k rev before shutdown. Car starts up just about instantly every time I've done that.

I tend to notice that it has more trouble starting after the engine is already warmed up. For example, in the morning when the engine is completely cold it will usually start right up. But once its warmed up and I turn it off, lets say I go into a store for 10 minutes, when I try to start it sometimes it takes 5-6 seconds to turn over. Could be just coincidence since it doesn't happen everytime.

really dumb question: Do you kill the ignition while the car is reving at 3K-5K or let it return to idle before turning the car off
I drop the throttle real abruptly before turning it off when I do that. It seems to make noises like it's coughing all the crap out of itself, so it makes me feel like I'm getting something accomplished.
I also wait for the fuel pump and whatever else to finish clicking/whirring with the key in the ON position before turning to START. Seems to shorten the crank time.
The only weirdness I've seen is on a cold day with the engine mostly cooled down, but not completely cold yet. That seems to be more an issue with the idle control hunting all over the place, rather than a hard start though.

It does seem right, though. When you're in park, the fuel supply to the combustion chamber is cut off, so stepping on the gas burns up the excess fuel that is in there. At least, that's what the Mazda video said.
You would think, but the way Mazda depicted it in the DVD I received from them, they make it seem otherwise. Anyone with better know-how can certainly jump in on this one and correct any information I am disseminating.
I have never had a start up issue, it starts right up every single time. I never turn the car on for x amount of time before trying to crank it and I never rev my engine before shutting it down.
