I am the original owner of a 1980 Mazda RX-7. I was working with Chips Morotorsports in Warren MI, however as some of you guys know, Chip has closed up shop. Chip was working on a 13B Renesis swap into my car, but was unable to complete my project.
The engine is a fresh built Renesis Series I .. with an RX-7 front cover for mounting. I've opted for an EWP (Electric Water Pump) which requires the alternator to be relocated from a top mount to a side mount. The challenge that I've run into is the different dimensions and bolt hole locations of the front plate or front iron. The 12A, 13B or 20B front plate is approximately 40mm thick. The Renesis front plate is approximately 75mm thick. The accessory bolt holes located on the side of the front plate are located in a different position (both vertically and horizontally).
Does anyone have a disassembled Renesis Series 1, and be able to scan this section of the front plate or front iron on a flatbed scanner, and send it to me?
I've attached some photos to help demonstrate the challenge and the differences in the bolt hole locations.
Seconded. Scour your preferred local listing site, and find someone selling a bunch of stuff. Ask if they have a dead front iron. I've had luck finding similar parts (housing, rotor, e-shaft) for prototyping purposes for cheap to free that way.
I couldn't pick up the engine and carry it upstairs to get a scan, but I grabbed my trusty calipers and measured everything for you. Then I 3d printed a test bracket to double check fitment. The four bolts in question are on the same plane, so fortunately you can just design a flat bracket and have SendCutSend laser cut it for you, rather than having to shell out for CNC.
Note: after test fitting, the only dimension I'd change is to increase the diameter of the 6mm holes by 1mm.
