Background info: Took the car to dealer in 2018 to have passenger airbag recall done. I ended up working at that dealership as a ford/mazda tech the next year. Shortly after, the dealership dropped Mazda so I just do fords now. I have done one Mazda airbag recall on a mazda6, and countless on fords. The mazda passenger airbag and all the ford passenger airbags I have done have a different inflator design with plastic end caps to fit it to the airbag. Screenshot is of pdf of technical instructions I pulled from NHTSA website and shows what I expect, with the plastic caps. Picture is of my airbag, which my experience says it is the recalled Takata airbag and was not replaced. Anyone happen to be in the industry and know for sure if the series 2 rx8 replacement airbags should have the plastic caps? Thinking I might go to the dealer tomorrow, but not sure I want to drive an hour to Topeka for them to probably blow me off.
