Hello

Hello.
I'm from Italy, which is where I live, and I own a preserved 1982 GSL, RX-7, in great condition, unmolested and with original paint. I'm also on RX7club.
I've found the RX-7 with a bit of luck as GSLs were never imported in the EU, and it made me fall in love with the Wankel. I'm an engineer and always been a Mazda enthusiast.
As I'm possibly looking to buying an RX-8, I have subscribed to this forum.
Cheers.

Bongiorno.
We had an Italian member here, "bse", but he hasn't been active for a while.
Can you post some pics of your RX7?

I currently have a non running unmolested '04 LY GT in very good shape.
I'm going to be getting a rebuild engine in the near future.
I was hoping to buy a new engine, but the Asian supply chain issues have curtailed their availability.
I waited too long.

Enjoy the forum!

Buongiorno to you

This is my RX-7.

Regarding the supply chain issues - do you mean Mazda has stopped making new Renesis engines?
I understood that they are still being made in this series of articles by Mazda:

Thanks @BigCajun .
I have replied and inserted a picture, but the message hasn't made it through - actually I got a message saying 'it will be posted after being reviewed by the administrators'.
I guess it's because new members must post a number of message before being given complete access.

Anyway, I have a question:
you say "I was hoping to buy a new engine, but the Asian supply chain issues have curtailed their availability."
Does this mean Mazda is not making Renesis motors anymore? I thought they were still being made as described in an article on the Mazda site.

It's my understanding they're still being made but are backordered.

Grazie!

That's a fantastic article, very encouraging.
It's surprising for me to learn that Mazda never stopped building new rotaries.

It seemed to me that most people here assumed for years that only remanufactured engines were available and they had only been making parts for them.

I haven't been actively searching.
As recently as March I was assured that they were available.

I'll link a thread I started about my experience, to which I added your link.
Thanks again!!!

I found out my engine was failing over 5 years ago.
As a result of wasting a lot of time searching trying to define my options, I decided to start a Rebuilders thread and invite everyone to share experience and knowledge.
Sadly, some of our North American shops are no more. The new engine discussion is a relatively recent discussion.
The link you shared is one of the best articles I've seen in a long time, so I added it.

There are quite a few links to other threads, it's turning into a good little rabbit hole.

I, too, find that article fascinating. I think it explains what sets Mazda apart from any other car maker in the world.
When I read it, I felt like I could smell the cutting oil used in the period-correct machines, their metallic cases painted in green, cutting Wankel doritos.
It's a full circle in a way - the Wankel saved Mazda from being absorbed into Toyota or Nissan, now Mazda is now keeping the Wankel alive.
I do hope that they will make a RX-9, after seeing all the patents that surfaced during 2021/22. In other words I wish Mazda gives me a good reason to speak to my bank manager
If not, at least an MX-30 with a rotary.... my wife would surely appreciate either one.

I can't post on the main forum yet, you may want to read the first two parts of the story and link to it.

Thanks again MrILO.
I started a thread on the series so everyone can be aware of it.
I'm so glad you shared this with me, it's completely changed my attitude regarding my 8.

I'm now much more hopeful about getting a NEW engine realizing the prospect of enjoying my RX8 for many years to come is a reality.
