Rx7

As I announced before I sold my rx8 and got 2012 3.8 R-Spec Genesis Coupe as my new car. Its a great car and but I really miss my rotary scene. I'm thinking to get RX7 as a project car but I cant find any rx7's for price I can afford. I went to rx7club but I cant see section where they would sell cars or anything like that... do I need to be a member to see that section possibly?? I'm thinking about FD RX7.... any ideas??

I'm actually watching the RX-7 classifies for an FD every day, there are tons there. Yes, you have to be a member, no, it's not difficult to become one...

They're on there, but not only do you have to be a member, they have minimum post counts to read/post on most threads.

Good luck hunting.

I've always wanted an RX-7 as a project car, but my first choice is an old Volkswagen Bug though.

What are you looking to spend on a project FD? Around here people post(craigslist) shells for like 8k and whole cars for 12k to 18k so its not the cheapest thing to get into. Not sure what the asking price is on rx7club for any of that as I'm not a member.

^ prices for running RX-7s are typically higher there, but then, they are also much more likely to not be scams, problem-cars (more then the car is anyway), and properly modded/maintained.

"More likely" is the key bit there. Still can find examples to the contrary, but usually advertising among knowledgeable peers exacts a more precise / demanding valuation and detail.

If you can't find one you can purchase right off the bat, don't consider buying one at all.
Fd rx7s are money pits that can ruin your life.

lol , but they're so beautiful. I started looking and we'll see what I can afford , I think that by the end of this year I should be able to buy something for around $10k cash , definitely looking for a running one.

Cars bought for that amount will need at least the same amount to be made "ok".

unless it's a 1 owner FD, most of the FD u see on Rx7club has been "molested" one way or another.

Those that's running in great shape, 90% of the time will stay with their current owner forever.

the rest, it either runs like ****, it's been hacked like there is no tomorrow, or it was hacked previously, But then the owner fucked it up so bad, he just put it back to stock-like condition and sell it off.

I saw a few "decent, 1 owner" FD couple months ago elsewhere, and they were sold around 20K, most of them were owned by some dude who past away, then their son/whatever is selling it back out. Most have LESS THAN 30K on odo! and the interior and stuff looks very clean(looks NEW)

Unless you have at least 30K around, don't bother with any of those 10-15K FD, it will bring your financials down.

Im restoring a fucked up FC and its is costing me arm and leg, but Im planning to keep it forever so it's all good. Looking to get a SA22C right now for my next project. oh yeah.

I hate it when people fuxk their rides up, doesnt matter if it's Rotary or whatever, you want to see something sad? look at THIS

This is a "FD", obviously had a swap, and it was burnt to a crisp, I think the idiot got into an accident, shitty swap caused it to catch fire, KABOOM! There u go. another FD gone.

funny thing is, insurance trying to "Sell" this @ Salvage Auction ... LOL

im buying a fd this summer or next. be prepared to spend money.

A main reason they fail so much is their age and everything breaks all the god damn time. Replacing everything that has a weakness to breaking is a good way to keep the fd running strong, though replacing everything isnt cheap and provides little to no gains. Thats why people tend to not do it, and eventually do it after realizing they should have 1 to 3 engines ago.

after i build the fd, im buying a 911 to put a rwb kit on and twin turbo it, then buying another fd, then buying a vert fc and swap in a newer 13b and turbo it,

A good FD is hard to find. What is most likely is that you'll find a nice car but will still have to invest in a new engine. You may find some that say they have a new engine or a rebuilt engine but I am very skeptical of those since most people that build/rebuild rotary engines have absolutely no clue what they are doing.

I'd be looking for a nice completely stock FD with no regard for what condition the engine is in. You may spend anywhere from $9K to $19K for such a car. Then plan on spending another $5K to redo an engine properly. They aren't cheap cars so plan on spending at least twice what you sold the RX-8 for since that's probably what it will cost to have a nice one that has life in it for a while to come. If you want a 1st or 2nd gen, you can have those for dirt cheap.

I just bought a FD project car. It can be a money pit if you don't know what your doing. Im glad I got a good chassis for dirt cheap. But completing it really starts to add up, and I'm only doing a close to stock restoration project. Im saving it from a V8 so that makes me happy.

Please just sell it. Swapping a V8 into an RX-7 is like putting your biological child up for adoption for the sole purpose of adopting a fatter kid. It's a travesty.

He bought it from a guy that wanted to do a v8 swap. He's doing it right, saving another chassis from a v8 abomination

Yeah I love the rotary too much to rip it out. If I wanted a V8 I would have just got a Z06. Balance must suck dropping a V8 in there too.

On a side note guy sold this chassis because he found one with a V8 in it already..He has a V8 with a turbo and hes doing a Fortune body kit. Talk about overboard.

While I wouldn't quite use that analogy, I agree with the sentiment of the statement.

Craigslist is a good place to look for too.
Just like others mentioned, be prepare to put some extra cash on top of it if you want a proper/functional FD.
