AEM Series 1 Custom install hax0r.prj

So I acquired an AEM v1 ecu for a subaru sti with DBW for really cheap (180 shipped), so i've got it running on the bench and sync'd with my laptop and AEMPro first try (yay). The idea is to eventually control the engine and everything else, but for now i'd like to at least get it managing methanol/water injection, and maybe some fail safe features. Does anyone here run AEM on the RX8? I have experience with megasquirt mostly, so this is all new to me. I just got the manual and started building a custom harness and setting up some GM sensors I have for testing. woot

I’ve never heard of anyone doing it for an RX8. Probably because it’s an old 16 bit device, though was a decent relabeled aftermarket ecu from way back in that era. I suppose if it was cheap and you can get it to control some auxiliary components the way you want to then why not, but it’s going to be lacking features more common to newer ecu systems, and certainly not plug-n-play wrt replacing the factory ecu.

Most people will likely be more prone to screwing/blowing up something going that route rather than say a dedicated RX8 specific PnP ecu like the Adaptronic Modular. In general it seems to me that most attempts to use a universal type ecu on an RX8 don’t end up well. I can’t even recall what I’d perceive to be a successful attempt really, but there could be some out there that I’m not aware of. Actually misspoke on that, MoTeC was used for racing purposes, but is a pretty heavy hitter if you can afford it.

However, when somebody is going the “cheap” route it tends to forebode the end result …

I got it reading some GM sensors I had laying around pretty easy. so far it has all the functions I would need to run a K-series if I ever do that swap. My $150 Renesis is still running great (fingers crossed), but the brand new clutch is hissing when I let out the clutch. not happy about that
