Anyone have upgraded coils with ground wire? I have a new Bennett setup and didn’t get any directions. I read on a few posts some mounting it directly to battery or a ground on the engine.
I'm asking cause my car just threw a P0355 code for the ESS, I still gotta clean it and recheck. My car has 120k on it third engine just replaced last spring. I ran the wire for the ESS sensor under the bracket.
Yes, most (all?) D585 coil kits need to be grounded. Any existing ground point shhhould be fine? I wouldn't go to the battery, no reason to hang wires over the belt.
Not sure if this is necessary for Bennetbuilt, but for some other kits you need to remove the engine hanger hook near the #1 coil, otherwise the coil harness rubs on it and 7 years later your car starts blowing ignition fuses. Ask how I know.
you don’t really want to go to the battery with this style coil to prevent creating a grounding loop; do an internet search on that term if you’re not sure what it is.
it’s the A pin on this diagram that doesn’t exist on the OE harness (the other 3 pins).
I seem to recall the BHR setup was to put it over on the fender/chassis bolt on that side, but imo the unused boss right above the front rotor trailing spark plug is a good location (yellow circle below). It needs a short M6x1.00 bolt/washer and appropriate wire terminal size to bolt down there
even though the ESS wiring is shielded, it’s best to route it as far from the coils as possible to minimize potential signal interference. Even the OE wiring placement is fairly close, but these coils generate more energy than the OE coils.

All good stuff guys, really appreciate the input and knowledge. It’s not supposed to rain tomorrow so I hope to get my hands dirty on this again. It definitely seems like some kind of interference, my car ran fine but definitely something going on at idle.

yeah I had to remove my engine hanger to install, it actually looks like I could reinstall it after setup but I’m leaving it off! Thanks again
I have got LS coils on my RX8. And recently noticed the earth cable dangling close to the belts. Think I will also try and relocate it somewhere less obtrusive.
