I wonder how they solve the lubrication issues to lower the emissions... Otherwise it looks pretty promising.

I would think they could use the etech style technology from evinrude?
I’m not sure about now but it used direct injection of oil in certain spots and adjusted as the temp of the engine raised. At operation temps it was the cleanest boat engine being produced even better than the 4 strokes. Same tech was used in the snowmobiles and worked great.

That could work, just make the range extender run on 2-stroke oil altogether, meter it precisely(S2 RX-8 already has the electric metering pumps) then design the crankcase to be large enough so you don't need to add any in between oil change intervals.

We will see for sure when Mazda publishes more materials.

On the range issue mentioned in the video, in reality, if you are using this car as a city DD, have a garage with a charger, and have a second car, I don't see any issue with even the 130-mile range. Most people don't drive that much daily, anyway. The range extender is good for the odd trips here and there.

I wonder what the additional power that the electric system would deliver. If we could purchase the part - that would be a great, but expensive add-on to the RX-8.

The electric drive doesn't add power, it is the only power. The rotary is there to spin a generator and charge the battery.

Here's a guy driving a prototype:

A screenshot from the video shows a single rotor (and one sparkplug?):

I really don't like those plastic wheel guards ...but was just thinking . What if you took them off and did the whole wideboi thing with it ? Might work !

Lowered, wide wheels , flares ...............
Any artists around here?

I don't mind the plastic since it's better than rust, which metal wheel arches will eventually do with enough snow around.

For me , they look so crappy I wouldn't consider buying one unless I could do something with them. Which is why I was thinking ...maybe taking them off opens up quite an opportunity to create something that actually looks great !

Anyone heard any news about this RE Generator, it was to be released last year, but now I hear that it may not even happen at all.

And while I am at it where the hell is their new inline Skyactiv 6 cylinder, this was shown and announced in 2017, 5 YEARS AGO...!..

Yes I know chip supply issues but seriously again Mazda's timing is bloody terrible (not always their fault).

I think Mazda and all the world is in for one massive financial shock, today the UK Pound devalued to it lowest EVER since 1971
to US Dollar, over 50 years ago!!.

Australian Dollar to follow (gets weaker) as will the Yen (that usually gets stronger), so all we will see is even higher cost of new cars Made and exported out of Japan.

I simply don't know. It's disappointing that they couldn't get the RE range extender into production so that their limited EV range is offset by a "thirfty" RE recharging system. At a minimum offer that small 1-rotor RE as a prt # so I can buy onefor my golf cart or lawn mower.

GM/Holden managed to get a decent car out called the Chevy Volt.

C'mon Mazda

Patent drawings show two plugs, MSP, and direct injection. Patent drawings are often fudged to intentionally mislead, so as not to give away other secrets, but not necessarily. MSP is developed enough that it's probably carrying through. Direct injection seems more than plausible. Not sure how to square the two plugs in the drawings with the one in the prototype pictured above. I don't see how they could have gotten away from the issues that led to two spark plugs to begin with.

What's got me excited is if the single rotor is a 6XXcc (half a 1.3). If so, that direct injection housing could revitalize the tuner world a little. As could any of the myriad other parts (maybe they figured out a new seal material?) and the R&D that went into them. Additionally, if it's half a 1.3L, that bodes well for a rotary sports car to reemerge, and then things get REALLY interesting.

It arrived

Now it's official, at least to Europe:

Single 0.8 rotor ; biggest Mazda ever built, right? I wonder if this one has any relationship with the 16x project. What are your thoughts?

This is what I've seen in specs
range 400miles
Fuel tank 50L
Fuel comsumption : 182mpg combined with battery ...not 100% sure what that means but I think it's starting from a fully charged battery

Something doesn't add up with those numbers but i'm sure it will become clear in time . If it is getting 182mpg though ......................... fffffffffK! That's awesome
