Harbor Freight Jack stand Recall

Guys,

With so many of us at home and working on car projects, I wanted to give you a heads up that Harbor Freight has issued a recall on some of their popular 3 and 6 ton jacks so if you own any, please see the link / image below to make sure you are not affected.
This is a serious one as these jacks could suddenly collapse!

I cannot believe people actually buy safety equipment from a company that sells tools that break after one use.

My win / lose ratio is pretty decent there.

edit: of course losing your leg, let alone life, is a bit of a game changer ...

FYI - I contacted Harbor "Fright" to get some torque settings for their model 56617 3 Ton low profile floor jack that I also own. Here they are:Below are the torque specs you requested:

Oil fill screw torque: 12 ft. lbs.

M5 nuts and bolts: 9 ft. lbs.

M10 nuts and bolts: 30 ft. lbs.

M16 nuts and bolts: 140 ft. lbs.

Saddle Bolt (#31): 75 ft. lbs.

We greatly appreciate your business,

Michael Roberts

I thought that would be listed in the manual, but apparently not ...

I've had the same one for a couple years, I like it. Though for 'low profile" I still need to drive the car up on a block of wood in order to get to the front jack point by the oil pan. My car is on lowering springs, but still.

Chrishoky said it - I still need to drive up the RX8 (or a Fit) onto blocks to access the front lift point (from the front). Side lift points are a breeze. I've owned it since December and I have rotated 4 cars worth of tires, did the MT fluid change, and a host of other items. Mine came low on hydraulic fluid and had to purchase SAE30 from WalMart to fill the reservoir up. Hence the need for torque specs on the bolt. By now they should realize this stuff has to go in the manual they provide.

Thanks for the feedback. It's a tight squeeze, but I can get my low profile jack under the front center lift point on my R3. Though I'm at stock ride height. Thinking about maybe giving one of their long reach low profile floor jacks a shot.

wannawankel --- I'm about 15 minutes from Clifton on the westside of town. Small world.

Now if you read the Road &Track article and link, HFs wording may lead to believe that potentially some of their 2011-2020 Jacks Stands might have a defect. They list the model numbers back to 2011 on this link and say that you can even take those in for a refund- no replacement.

Confirmed from call the store that there is a replacement jack stand - it's $49 for the 3 T (and that demonstrates to me that their previous vendor made a substandard product to hit the sub $30 price point). Until HF takes this down, here's the JS numbers that are included in the "generous" return policy

It is and having been involved in prepared food product recalls (all due to the vendor shipping my former Company goods that were found to have issues) - HF's wording does suggest to me that they: (1) may not have been inspecting product from their vendor in such sufficiency, (2) the insepction method/measure/person (training) was flawed, and (3) the vendor has no idea when the defect started to occur. If this occurred on their JACK STANDS then it's likely that they have issues with other parts like HYDRAULIC LIFTS. Lack of a quality mindset is systemic in an organization.

I'm torn if I should turn in my old 2011ish jack stands (not subject to the red recall part numbers but now on the list of "you can turn them in if you feel uncomfortable") and inquire with HF corporate about my recent hydraulic lift purchase.
