Ok so have gone round in circles reading threads and I havent got a clue!
Just bought it no service history
New coils
New plugs
New leads
New 2.2kw starter
New battery
Premix 98 octane

Tried ATF trick

Apex seals look ok through the spark plug hole
Not sure if it has a cat looks like sports cat with double resonator but not sure
Did backfire a couple of times before failure to idle but did pull like a train before failure

Symptoms
Hard start hot or cold
Will not idle or when it dose really rough
Chuffing sound from some where near the intake manifold
Had P0410 code cleared it now no codes
Slight lack of power sometimes
Will rev up to red line

Looks wet like oil under the intake manifold its on everything mostly to the back of the engine but under the manifold.

Wehn it started before it reved up to 2000 rpm and slowly came down as the engine warmed up now no warm up idle just dies unless I give it a bit of gas to keep it going until warm and then rough idle or dies.

After i fitted new plugs starer ect it started hot three times in a row drove the the end of the road it cut out refused to start for a few mins then jump to life.

Will only start with my foot on the pedal a little bit never with foot off

 

Vacuum leak? Get an OBD scanner and check LTFT, STFT. Report back.

I hope its something simple I love this car I have had cars of all types including much more expensive ones than this one but this one by far drivs the best
