this 2005 Rx-8 is for 990 quid and it has 79'000miles. i asked him about a compression test and he said didnt know what it was should i take a gamble on it?

 

That low price says it all - likely the engine has poor compression. Take it for a test drive, shut it off and restart several times, and if it has problems run away. Offer less (£100) without a compression test.

 

@wannawankel is that how you test it? what are common points on it to look for?

 

No substitute for an actual rotary specific compression test. But lengthy hot starts or not starting at all after the engine is at operating temp points to loss of compression. Other things to look for would be a flashing CEL on the dash which denotes misfiring. Read up in the newb section... jam packed with info.

 

Read this first please. A rotary engine-specific compression test is a must BEFORE buying any RX8. Your "bargain" purchase can turn into a huge financial burden if you need to replace a failing or failed engine !
