I am looking for a 5 speed trans to swap my 4 speed auto trans. Preferably low miles(less then 60K) in nice condition. Would need to be able to ship to the us.


I thought this would be a better place to look then the us forums since the 5 speed never made it to the us.

 

You'd be surprised. I searched for about 4 months before I just gave up and went for an ebay unit. Not saying its impossible, but in my experience unlikely.

 

It is easier to sell your automatic RX-8 and buy a manual version than it is to swap from an automatic to a manual.

 

Easier maybe but way more fun this way. Plus it is not exactly a hard thing since the 5 speed bolts right up hardest thing would probably to get the flex plate off and a flywheel on....

Ebay will probably be my next stop if I cant find one in a couple months or so.

 

You do realize that a 6 speed bolts right up as well...

 

go run several autocross events in your RX8, submit membership to Mazda Motorsports, and they are importing new 5 spd RX8 transmissions for sale to US racers in their program. Cost is pretty high though, $2700 each or so.

An 2009+ 6-speed MT would make more sense though

Yhea I know the 6 speed mates up too but I am eventually going to go FI and I like the gearing for the 5 speed more. And I have heard less complaints about the 5 speed then either 6 speeds, thought that might be because there are more 6 speeds out there.....


0.o $2700....way to much I might as well just drop a 6 port engine in there.....

 

You won't make enough power with FI to break a 6 speed anyways. Most failures are due to the people that drive them.

Yep as TEAM said you can buy brand new 6 speed Series II P66M Manual Trans for $1800, which is really cheap....even less for MMS customers

Mark, how do these MT tranny swaps go IF they are not changing engine too as the AT Rear Iron Housing is different (between Auto and Manual engines) for the Starter Mount?

It is OK IF owner is renewing engine too at the same time to a 6 speed Manual one.

Then the configurations/electrics for PCM.
