IL 04 rx8 wont start unless i pour oil into spark plug hole

Hey everyone,
My names Joel

Have my own repair shop & specialize in Honda/acuras lol
Trying to help a friend on his 04 rx8

So far I have narrowed it down. Car will run as long as I pour oil into the spark plug hole. When it got to me rx8 was flooded.

Would just crank, until I deflood it poured oil into the chamber. I can the get it to run & when it reaches about fully hot position, car stalls out on me. Was trying to get warmed up so it can do the idle relearn at 2500 for 15 seconds & 4500 at 15 seconds but unable to get it to that point yet. Once it stalls out ,will not restart unless I pour some oil into the chamber lol

I have done a compression test & keep getting 75-90 on all three spots of each rotor. Am I over thinking this ?

Also , I might add car sounds fine when its running & i'm revving it but suddenly just dies out. I can never get it to idle if let go of the gas pedal. Really sounds like a bad fuel pump the more I think about it. Which is really weird. Almost, like the pump only works sometimes & just stops working randomly, But I have yet to do a fuel pressure check.

75-90 using a piston engine compression tester? that's rather low IMO. did you do the compression test when it was hot or cold? Usually pouring oil into a combustion chamber like that allows the seals (or piston rings) to make a better seal, thus raising compression. it sounds like a low compression issue to me.

As for stalling out once it's warm, it could be a gunked up Throttle body plate (if it isn't compression related). Take it off and clean it.

That 75-90 is at what RPM?

If the fuel pump is on its last legs, it tends to operate just fine until about the time the engine reaches full operating temperature, at which point the pump overheats and dies. The cycle repeats if you allow it to cool before trying again. Likely a moot point, as all of the other symptoms strongly suggest low compression.

You need to have a look at the following threads:

I recommend reading this entire thread but post #9 in on ignition health and post #31 and #32 are on compression testing including charts/graphs of failing values
https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...t-here-202454/

Another thread that will help you diagnose your issues as a general FYI (Problem/Cause/Remedy)
https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...causes-249529/

Also please provide:
Mileage
Model (MT/Auto)
Modifications like an aftermarket intake
Maintenance history if known (plugs, coils, etc)

As already mentioned the compression test is different in a rotary engine and if those values are indeed close then depending on the rpm at the engine is close to failing or has failed.

Read those, report back, keep us posted.

Thanks for all the input guys , but buddy is actually selling it now.

With compression being at 65-70 when hot, pretty sure it's shot

If anyone is interested it's on CL
