Welcome,

I strongly suggest the new owner thread, below in my signature block. The Congrats thread is for after you have the car, but is worth reading as well.

good luck on your search

And, again, welcome.

First thing is to try and find one that hopefully has service records, or one that you can tell has been well taken care of.

Regular oil changes is a big deal. The lower miles between changes the better. Specifically if the keep the vehicle topped off.

Low miles is a huge plus or a car that's on a rebuild or its second motor.

Check for leaks in the front and the rear.

Typically the less modification the better. Some good motivations are the "sohn adapter" and a "oil catch can" most cold air intakes for the rx8 are junk. As for exhausts it's personal preference if you want one or not.

Make sure to ask if the vehicle had ever had any cooling problems. Overheating and close to overheating is a huge deal. All it takes is one time and that motor can become a ticking time bomb before it goes out.

Make sure you let the rx-8 warm up so you can make sure it idled properly and it doesn't stall. A lot of people are selling these with shot apex seals. They will keep vehicle cold and have you drive it quick before it gets hot so you buy it then the problem is yours.

Pay a few quid on a compression test, to ensure your engine is at least ok.
