Series 1 rx8's are the traditional right down with a push and series 2 are the left up with a push. Series 1's are 2004-2008 and Series 2's are 2009-2011. Series 2 has a slightly different exterior (headlights, tailights, front fascia, rear fascia, front fenders) and has a different transmission. The engine is more refined and the interior is slightly different as well.

Oh what a relief! I can't tell you how many forums and google searches I went through trying to find that answer.
Just picked up an 06 Shinka and it apparently has a Series II transmission according to what you're saying. (yes I did my research on what makes a Shinka a Shinka. Download a verity of VIN pdf and compared it across the board and I have #319 of 1500)
Would you happen to have a PDF of all the transmission codes?
Thanks a million

Noooo, I goofed.
I test drove so many RX8s that they all mooshed together in my head. Could have sworn that's the one I had (which kinda contradicted your information). I just picked up the Shinka last night and it has the series I (to the right and down).
It's an unmolested 06 Shinka. Nothing upgraded or after market. I love it. Great frick'n condition.

Already done
Previous owner went through that hassle already so Mazda replaced the motor.
Only has 10k on it as of now.
Most of the other issues were warrentied as well including the clutch pedal, and coolant tank

Super lucky! Little more than I wanted to spend on an RX8 but considering the package, the owner I bought it from and the history of it, I couldn't pass it up.
And yeah, I already plan on changing all fluids and bleeding the brakes. Treat it like it's never been done and start from scratch so I know what's in the car and the next time I need to change it.
