Unhappy can it be catalyc converter?

hey yall ive been having some problems with my 05 rx8. it was running great until yesterday,it droped revs all of the sudden,i pulled up and stoped the engine. after a while i turned back on and made it to an autopars to run the scanner,it came up to be a spark plug; well i replaced all the spark plugs and coils, tuned on and the problem was still there,i runned it to see if it came back to normal, but it didnt,it threw out some oil from intake, which was caused by overfilling. So I did an oil change, i cleaned the throttle body and intake(after market) after an hour i tried to start it,and it did,but this time there was a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust,it had a big gasoline smell, and the revs problem still there,i didnt accelerate it nor runned this time,i just turned it off and dont really know what to do now,i know its a long story, but hopefully i can still get help, thanks.

It sounds like a CAT issue but a bit more information could be helpful. Is your car MT or AT? What year and how many miles? How many miles on the CAT? Is it an OEM or aftermarket CAT? What was the actual engine code? Further, in your post you stated that you changed coils and plugs…Why not the wires? How old are the wires?

First it overfilled, which means oil could have and most likely got into the SSV, you don't have to but in order to rule it out I would take it off and clean it. That's going to be a few hours to take it out, inspect it and clean if need be, then put it back in.

What color was the smoke? Since it was overfilled it could have just been excess oil and needs to be burned, nothing wrong with that.

Its a 2005 manual, i got new engine last year so it has around 25k+ on it...i also got flowmaster done to it about 4months ago..it reads 85k+ miles which i think the cat has on it. An they didnt gave me the code at the autoparts, they just told me what came up on the scanner.

I assume you have no codes at this moment. You can check the CAT by removing it (very easy if you can lift/jack the car). You can also check the CAT after driving the car for a bit. If it glows red the CAT is gone (make sure you are in a complete dark area when you are looking underneath the car).

Like bickninja suggested the SSV could be another good candidate for your issue. Before you take out the SSV you can test it manually and see if it works.

It was white, and thats what came to my mind, that it could be because it was overfilled. At first it smelled like burned oil and gasoline, then just like gasoline

^If you have a stuck SSV seafoam could help. However, in the case of a stuck SSV you really need to take apart the upper intake manifold and spray some brake/maf cleaner to clean the SSV.

More info on the SSV and how to test it can be found at the link that bickninja provided.
