dsc fuse on sport model?
First post intro. My name is ogan and I have a 04 sport. I'm 22 in the navy and come from good ol Tennessee. I've had the 8 about a year now and it's gotta be the best car I've drove hands down. I've used the forums here for countless reasons as I modded and gotten used to my first rotary motor. Finally made an account.
So here is my head scratcher. I may be completely over thinking this. I understand that sport models do not have the dsc button. However yesterday while installing foot well lights I noticed that inside the cabin fuse box I have a 7.5 fuse labeled DSC. If my car was never equipped with dsc why the fuse. I studied my dash lights made a mental image of what lights were on and which weren't. Pulled the fuse and oddly my check engine light went out. WTF . I put it back in and engine light returns. Note my engine light is constant due to a catless exhaust. My question is does anyone know what is happening? If it is taken out will there be long term issues? And why is it killing my engine light?

According to the wiring diagram, the DSC fuse is 30a, not 7.5. I also don't recall it being in the kickpanel, so I'm wondering if the abbreviation for the 7.5 fuse is being misunderstood here.
Do you have a way of pulling the codes behind the CEL, just to see if there are more codes than what you expect?

I have a code reader and today after work I plan to dig into it some more, see if it is somehow interfering with my sensors somehow out throwing a code of its own. But definitely no dsc off light or traction light as seen on other models equipped with such.

yea I thought it was supposed to be in the box under the hood and look like a large square fuse..... something else I need to check.

An aftermarket wiring diagram shows that the ABS system without DSC goes through the ABS 60A fuse in the engine bay, the 15A engine fuse in the engine bay, the 15a stop fuse in the engine bay, the ignition switch, and the 15a room fuse in the kick panel.
On the the ABS system WITH DSC version, it shows that the system does indeed pass current through a 7.5A "DSC" fuse in the kick panel, and leads directly to the steering angle sensor in the column, and that is the only path it takes.
Looking back at the WITHOUT DSC version, there is no steering angle sensor referenced. The steering angle sensor is referenced as integrated into the combination switch (the block behind the steering wheel that the levers actuate), so non-DSC models probably DO have a steering angle switch, just not connected to anything.
The service manual does indicate that only DSC models will have the connector though, which is obviously needed to get current from the DSC fuse and the combination switch.
At this point, I'm thinking that either A) You actually do have DSC, and something has been modified to make you think that you do not, or B) That fuse is normally empty, but the prior owner is using it for something else that is also triggering a CEL.
Time to trace the wire!
