No swap is easy. Also, a lot of people who proclaim things about rotaries don't know squat about them.
Read the new owner's thread so you get a better understanding of what you have. Don't let it scare you, though.

The rep of RX8s is based on fact, they are not as problem free as most cars. However, I believe if maintained properly, they are great cars.
Learn all you can on maintaining them, and if you are concerned about longevity, start saving your money for a rebuild.
It'll probably be cheaper & easier.

True that, an 8s engine can last between 30-100K miles, it all depends on HOW you take care of it. Yes the engines don't last as long, if you own it for an extended period there is a good chance you will get a motor replacement because the engines don't last as long as pistons.
With that being said they can longer than what people give them credit for if they're maintained. Check out the threads that are sticked to understand more about the engine.
