MisFire Bang Bang P0335

08 Rx8
MS Intake
AP pulley
Yukon coils msd wire
Cobb Ap

Pulled the code P0335

While driving hesitates and backfires like a shot gun. turning or stopping at intersection car dies, terrible idle. If i reset with the cobb and 20 brake stomp, all goes away for the whole day and runs great. then later at night it all comes back and the cel turns on again.

checked the code and says crank position sensor malfunction.
So replace it?? also i already cleaned it no worky

i'm wondering how many others who have had the P0335 also have the agency power pulley set. i have checked our car numerous times with no definitive answer but i have also not checked the air gap at numerous points around the wheel. but the problem is erratic on ours and only happens a few times a year.

changing the sensor would probably eliminate it even if the pulley is at fault, temporarily, i hesitate because these sensors/wiring are rarely at fault. a better alternative if you have the stock pulley is to just put it back on and replace the sensor, that would eliminate the 2 most probable causes.

UPDATE***

clean all battery ground plus the one under the battery box plus air box tray.

Did this drove 53 miles today alot of drive cycles runs like a beast!

Update*** 98 miles now, runs good and also better then before. No more loppy idle either that i had for awhile, super smooth and acceleration feels quicker on the butt dyno.

Buy Corrosion spray and battery protector spray from CRC

Also wire brush.

Step 1 unbolt grounds

Step 2 Corrosion spray

Step 3 Scrub the **** out of the connectors and frame.

Step 4 Wash off with water then dry it.

Step 5 Spray battery protector.

Step 6 enjoy you fixed your P0335 problem and car should run smooth like never before.

Also There might be a TSB for this. Good Luck Happy Motoring!

I will be going back to OE pullies this year to see if my supernow set has been causing my misfire issue.

How are you guys figuring a pulley is causing a misfire, that is a pretty poor assumption... the trigger wheel remains unchanged when you switch pulleys...

Besides, pretty much any aftermarket pulley is aluminum, doesn't a hall effect sensor work off of electromagnetic fields?

If the pulley is off center, or not weighted properly it can cause an elongation on the rotation during high RPM's causing the ESS readings to become inaccurate

That wouldn't matter... the trigger when is a separate piece that is positioned by dowel pins and four bolts... the pulley could be machined poorly but it shouldn't matter.

Its all one assembly when installed, if the pulley is not balanced right it could make the entire shaft rotate oblongly, not a lot but a mm or 2 is enough to throw off the sensor.

If you have 2mm of side to side e-shaft play you've got bigger problems... changing a pulley isn't enough to make the entire e-shaft no longer rotate around the center of its axis. Also with that reasoning, everyone that installs a lightweight flywheel and aftermarket clutch and doesn't rebalance the rotating assembly should throw crank sensor CEL's. Or if you tighten the front belts too much it'll pull the eshaft out of alignment which isn't true either.

The motor isn't quite as sensitive to balancing as you think.

Im just going off what builders and other people have said, regardless it takes 5 mins to swap to rule it out.

Yes I agree the likely hood is about 1%, but to say its impossible to happen I would disagree with.
