Post Need Winter Wheel Help from my fellow Canucks

Hi guys,
I'm trying to decide what kind rims I should get. I'm thinking about just getting some steel rims for the winter to save money OR maybe get the Mazda3 17" rims as part of the deal. What do you guys think ???

Any suggestions ?

Thank you.

Smoker, you've been around long enough to have seen this stuff!

Steel wheels - as far as I know (and I've followed this very closely), nobody has found 17" steel wheels that fit the RX-8. Not an option.

Mazda6 or Mazda3 wheels - supposedly, the Mazda6 17" wheels fit, I haven't heard that the Mazda3 17" wheels do or don't fit yet. If they do, and you can get them for a decent price, then they'd be good. BUT - in the group buy, people were paying around $200/wheel for the aftermarket 17" alloys - I doubt Mazda is selling their wheels that cheaply! My 17" Konig Holes were $255 each from www.tiretrends.com .

Gordon,
thanks a lot for the informative post and links ! really really appreciate that. Yea, I've looked around and suspected that nobody has yet found the right 17" steel wheel so I had to post and verify that. Since nobody have tried the Mazda3 wheel option, I'll definitely look into that to see if that feasible. The reason I'm considering that is because I can use the X-Plan to purchase the car with the options. Maybe I can get those stock RIMS at a good price.

Thanks a lot for all the help.

Wow, that's the first we've heard about 17" steel wheels being available - everybody was told by their dealers last fall that they couldn't get them. Where were you last fall when we were all buying alloys?? :p

(just kidding - me personally, I really like the look of the wheels I got, more than the OEM 18s - I still wouldn't have bought steel wheels!)

Regards,
Gordon
