Help me fix my CEL

So my CEL came on the other day, and hasn't gone away. Everything seems to be running ok, but maybe it's a little rough at idle.

So I ordered myself a little OBD2 gadget that connects wirelessly to my iPad and it tells me that the Trouble Code is P0351 Ignition Coil A Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction.

A bit of Googling tells me that a lot of people thing this code doesn't exist on the RX8 because it doesn't on the North American version, but apparently it is valid on the JDM version which is what i have.

So my question is, do I just replace all 4 coils (I'm sure they are "due") or do i need to do a bunch of other stuff to make my car happy again as well?

And my other questions are where do you kiwis recommend I get them (Mazda NZ prices are mental), and how hard is it for someone completely non mechanical to replace them? (Give me a computer to fix and I'll do it, but a car?)

Am I going to cause any damage driving it while I wait for coils to come from where ever you all recommend i get them?

And when are we having another cruise\mystery tour\thing?

Thanks
Scott

Replace all 4, recommend wires and plugs at the same time.

You can go OE ( I would recommend Rev C coils) which you can find on alot of websites, or you can upgrade to a complete d585 ignition kit from BHR which I am sure Charles would ship to you.

You will damage the other coils, and the plugs. If you are misfiring you will destroy your cat and could cause premature compression issues, long story short is yes its harmful.

Hey mate just order them from Mazmart and have them shipped from the states. It is so much cheaper than ANYWHERE in NZ.

You need REV A or REV C coils, since there aren't "A" coils left you can only use "C" coils. REV B coils cause a CEL on JDM models.

It is ridiculously easy to replace coils plugs and wires (REPLACE ALL THESE COMPONENTS)

If you wanted the BHR ignition, Charles will definitely ship to you ( I have dealt with him myself, was so easy) but it will cause the Coil Communication CEL (same CEL you will get wit "B" coils) but it won't do any harm and will work fine

To mask your CEL when you put the coils in you can either get an android phone and install Torque on it(It will clear the cel on startup) or talk really nicely to Brettus !

I have some Auto Exe looking for a good home - they are one of the best available . There are plenty of others that would do the job though ...................

Slightly off topic - but wanting a Kiwi response... I am going to buy OBD2 off trademe but not sure which one to get. I just did a search on OBD2 and there seems to be a few variations - van anyone point me in the right direction? And also tell me which ones to avoid? p.s. I have an android phone and also a laptop with blue tooth.

I tried a cheap Bluetooth one that I borrowed from a mate. Was a bit of a nightmare to get working. Most of the cheap bluetooth ones emulate a serial port, so won't work with anything that doesn't support them. IOS devices don't work, and apparently Windows 8 doesn't like them either. Android should be OK.

What I did find is that it is the software that is important, all of the 3 or 4 that I downloaded for windows were utter crap.

I ended up buying a wifi one off trademe from these guys: Trade Me - Listings from stahlcar works with ios and windows fine, and there is heaps of software with free trial versions, and resonably priced full versions on the app store. From what I have been told the bluetooth scanners work ok on android, and there is plenty of software on google play for them, just don't hold your breath for using them on windows.
