MI Letting go of the Audi to take up an RX8?

I like cars, I change cars like someone would shoes and it's a horrible addiction. Occasionally I will keep a vehicle for a year-or-so and make my own personal touches... then I get the urge for change. I have a car or two I keep But I have one I cycle more than the others. A truck/ tow vehicle, a family car and then more of a toy.

I currently have an Audi that is starting to get more miles than I like on it. So I have been looking to sell or trade it the past few days. I was looking at BMW's until I see this add for and 2006 Mazda RX8... catching my attention immediately. Needs engine and has salvage title Which is no problem for me and everything else is in great condition; only had 53k miles. I found a motor already which surprised me. So I am on the fence for this one. The car is ~200 miles away and he is asking $2,995. I hear lots of good things and guessing I won't get bored with this car. I love RWD . I understand the disadvantages this car could bring but I guess I am just looking for some insight, opinions to possibly sway my decision. I'd go check it out in person but I don't want to go all that way with nothing to show. Plus I don't know anyone who has or has owned one. so I can't get any insight from personal experience. So that's where some of you hopefully can come in.

Oh and btw nice to meet everyone.

You're going to need to replace the engine eventually so you may as well buy one that needs it immediately.

That's a joke but our cars do need a lot of TLC. I wouldn't worry so much about price and getting the best deal as much as I would worry more about getting the best RX8 you can afford. If your budget doesn't have much room, the RX8 isn't a cheap car to drive/maintain and isn't in your best interests. If the cars in your budget, it's an amazingly fun car to drive and gets a lot of attention.

If you have read the stickies, and you know what you are getting yourself into, go for it. As mentioned before, this is not a cheap vehicle to maintain. Get an engine from a reputable rebuilder, and don't cheap out. The cost of the vehicle plus a good rebuild is going to set you back approx $6500 + before you even get it to go down the street.

From going from a 220whp A4 1.8T quattro to my RX8. Guess what, I know you'll never look back.

But then again, I bought one with a fresh engine lol

Yes the motor I found was from a reputable place and with the cost of the car I am looking at $5500 at the moment. The only mechanical problems I have issues with would be head gaskets which with this particular motor, I won't have worry about that I still don't know I guess I will keep looking around a bit...... but this car is just so enticing.

If you flip cars often, then the first thing you'll get tired of is the lack of torque. But, if you want one of the best handling of any cars you can buy for under $5000, this is it.

https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...-rx-8-a-10961/

A decent post a member made a while back that quantitatively compares the handling of the RX-8 to well-known coupes and supercars. It's a bit biased, yes, but c'mon you're on an owner's forum.

I bought my RX-8 initially for the looks and the fact that it was a sporty coupe(-ish) car I could daily drive and still fit 4 people. As I got more comfortable with it, I saw how aggressive you could drive it and still stayed glued to the road. This got me excited about trying my hand at racing the car. Nowadays I regularly partake in solo events. This is the only car I get excited about driving, even after 8 years of ownership. I can't say the same about any other car I've owned thus far.

If you can accept the possibility of spending a fair bit of coin maintaining an 8 they are more than worth it. If you worry about the cost...don't do it!

Sorry miss... alright then, if you can sell your Audi and spend that money on fixing up the rx8 that you wanted, then its all good, its your money, not ours anyway...good luck by the way.
