OH Potential owner seeking advice on 2004 Rx8

Hello everyone! I've been lurking this board for some time and have been looking religiously in my area for an RX-8. I think I've found a decent deal here.

RX-8

I inspected and drove the car yesterday. Everything runs great. Grand Touring no spoiler leather interior sunroof yada yada. All in Excellent shape It shakes a little at idle, even more with the AC turned on. Other than that it starts and runs fine.

The owner is a mechanically inclined older man who bought it off a richer lady who had it sitting in a garage from 2004 until 2011, putting 50k miles on it.

They asked for 8k and taking as low as 7300. I offered 6.5k because it will need a new drive belt being that it's at the suggested maintenance mile mark. I'll also be running a compression test on it before I buy it, and doing all the 'new owner' maintenance from all the other threads. That's why I offered lower.

Any advice greatly appreciated, hope to become a member of the club soon!

Welcome to the site.
Since the car was only made available from mid 2003, I think they are fudging the facts a bit when they say it sat since 2004. That would mean that they put 50,000 miles on it in a year and a half. My 04 (built in 03) has 85,000 on it.
The shaking could be normal or possibly due to worn motor mounts. Or, it could even be due to a miss fire. In that case, new coils and plugs would be in order. Plugs for this car are more expensive than normal at $20 each from your local parts store.
Since the car was driven in the north, check the rear fenders, at the arch, for bubbling paint. Some trap moisture there and rust starts prematurely.

Here's the VIN #

JM1FE173240101080

and the free website I used to search it's history.

geniusvin.com

I looked it up before I met with them and it matches the story they gave me.

No red flags about this so far, I'm just nervous if the motor is in good shape. Only a compression test will tell!

EDIT: I'm sorry I must have explained that wrong. They said the previous owner before them had it sitting in a garage from 04-11 and she put the 50k on it over that time, and he had put 10k on it in 2 years.
