BHR resonator vs midpipe

BHR resonator vs midpipe
So I know I am doing a mid pipe, but not sure on cat back yet. I know that rotary motors eat cats, so deleting mine is a priority, since I have had problems with them with past rotary cars.
My Question is with the stock exhaust what difference am I going to see from cutting out the stock cat and adding the BHR resonator vs getting their entire midpipe?

the RX-8 doesn't eactly "eat cats" like some past rotaries. Sure our car is a little fire breather but unless you're tuning the AFR's, I would say the cat will hold up to normal driving. If you're tracking / racing the car, that's a whole different story.
What part of the country are you located in?
Do you have to worry about passing an annual smog test? Keep in mind that removing the cat is a federal offense and pretty frowned upon in certain parts.
as for your question: are you considering cutting out the actual OE cat and welding in a resonator? If so, STOP right there.
The OE cat is a $1400 replacement so I would not advise anyone cutting it up unless it's already blown out. You might need it for visual / smog inspections.
Your better option is picking up some kind of midpipe and having someone weld in a resonator or aftermarket cat. (that's what I did)
As for what difference you'll see: Well, the OE cat is already resonated so if you add another resonator, I am not sure what it'll do for the exhaust not but it's not going to smell great, that's for sure.

I'm going to cut off enough pipe with the cat to reuse it or sale it if need be. I am in NC but I race with a lot of shop owners so inspection isn't a problem.
I know the exhaust is going to be louder but I'm looking more for power gains, if the BHR midpipe will show 6hp, but a cat delete with their resonator will show 4hp the 2 hp isn't worth the 300 extra dollars to me

cutting out the OE cat is tricky because of it's size and location.
I would keep an eye out for a cheap test pipe and simply weld in a resonator / high flow cat instead of butchering an expensive piece of equipment which you might need down the road.
Here's a picture of my cat vs my high flow just for comparison
A midpipe / cat delete will probably only wield between 2-7 whp based on the several hundred RX-8's I've dyno'd over the years.

Thanks a lot for the info

The cheapest solution I've seen is the raceroots midpipe for $150.
If that is too loud, then you could buy the BHR resonator for $150 and have that welded in, or get some highflow cat to keep it legal/clean, but maybe you don't mind the volume of the cheap midpipe?

blk: glad I could help with that picture
ion: race roots = garbage.
Keep an eye out in the For Sale section for people selling 'test pipes' 'straight pipes' or simple midpipes then just decide whether you want a resonator in there for noise purposes or a cat.
By the way, this is the cat I used: Davesport, LLC -- Performance Metal Core Catalytic Converter, 100cpi
This is what the 'lil guy looks like:
